Ankita was a relly gud singer and a fab performer...guys don't be sad....U shud suppot her when she needs it the most like when her album is out or when she sings in a movie....now u shud wish her all the best for life....and be there with her till the end

Now me and a coupla friends of mine have started what we call the Ankita movement. The movement is all about reviving the pop industry of India to allow talents like Ankita's to blossom beyond the playback singing realm. The idea is that there are people who can rock, who can put their own face on their music rather than Rakhi Sawant's and don't need to recycle classics from the past as they will work to create their own sound and original music. Ankita has really convinced me of the necessity of this movement because if she were anywhere else in the world, Record Companies would be out for each other's throats to sign Ankita.

I posted a message regarding this in Ashita's thread and we are planning on sending it to major newspapers to create the buzzword, "The Ankita Movement", and at the same time rally to pave the way for such natural talents as our dearest.


"Agar mein yahan say jaoongi to mein apni aik chaap chor kar jaana chahti hoon", said Ankita Mishra before a commanding rendition of "Golmaal".

The girl auditioned, an overeager teenager, nevertheless earnest, who just seemed to live, breathe, and love music, and got two judges to dance to her tunes immediately. The TV seemed to emanate that same effervescence, the charisma, effectively announcing the birth of a star. Then came performance after performance that stood their ground in competition with everyone else's, and then it all stopped... and Ankita did what any great champion does, she started again, leaving us with guilt of not voting for her enough.

At 17, she proved that she could reconcile past any trough, and work towards the crests, and got the maestro himself, Mr Javed Akhtar to dance with her, a crest unrivalled in the history of Indian entertainment. She was brought back in the wildcard round after delivering performances, that were sensational in their versatility and indelible in their command, and more than ever, every performance that followed declaimed that music wasn't a collection of notes for her, but the the most intimate channel for her to communicate and a medium of expression, effusion and sublimation.

We gathered week after week at her fanclub, most of us older than her, admitting how awestruck we were by this young force of nature. And then she stepped in and performed "Rangeela". The choreography, the singing, the performance, everything screamed that the star that was born a few weeks ago had arrived to take over. Finally there's hope. The popstar who would revolutionize the pop industry and make it the place for talented women to be in, and at the same time combat and eliminate social taboos that forced talented singers to use a model or dancer's face in their music videos, was finally here. The Ankita movement had begun.

The quality of performances persisted, Shabana Azmi, Ila Arun, Govinda and company joined her fanclub and the audience joined in chanting "Once More" week after week. We couldn't get enough of Mishra.

And then the trough came,... the same judges, who sang her praises, and danced to her tunes, had alienated her, but once again she navigated her way through it, and once again like the true star she is, converted her non-believers into believers. We didn't experience the trough because we had seen enough, heard enough to know that we could never ever be disbelievers again, after all, us fans had learnt from our earlier mistake of discounting her in the piano rounds.

She came and rocked, and the Ankita movement was thrown in the limelight when Mr. Akhtar once again said that this girl was the "Indian girl of today". A woman, who was willing to express her feminity and her originality in a society that was inebriated with male superiority, but by her effect the same society seemed to be coming out of its collective hangover as Ankita became the last girl standing.

The social significance may not be felt right now but 5 years, 10 years, 15, no matter how long it takes, the door that Ankita opened in this season, will amass a revolution, that will once again give India a great Music Industry to boast of, where singers would be seen not just heard, where singers will put their own face on their music, not that of an actor or actress, where awards shows will feature singers performing their numbers rather than actors dancing to them.

That world will come, however, for now the task of breaking the walls of prejudice and amassing a revolution is in very good hands. After all, can we possibly wish for a better fighter, a more determined vanguard, a more intrepid icon than the born rock star herself, ANKITA MISHRA.
