'I can never look like a hunk'

Bollywood's current reignman Shahrukh Khan shares his dreams unlimited with AT

Big screen heartbreaker, badshah of brands, doting dad and businessman - Shahrukh Khan seems comfortable in most real life roles he has to play.

While most of his counterparts have been courting Hollywood, Shahrukh has been adding finishing touches to his films (Shimit Amin's Chak De! India and Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om), has just come home with a French honour (Officier dans l' Ordre des Arts des Lettres - a first for an Indian actor), will have his statue installed at French Graven Museum in Paris very soon and might even get to meet Queen Elizabeth for the London premiere of a film.

The man who's always in news, comes out of his self-imposed exile (he makes public appearances only when a movie is about to release or he has to promote a brand he's endorsing) and in an interview with AT, he admits that after doing "a lot of work in the last decade because my heart said 'yes' and I'm no longer in the phase where I do a film because it has action or romance.

The script decides things for me." In his newest flick, Shahrukh even moves away from his larger-than-life image, and works with 16 newcomers. "Even after 18 years in the profession, I learnt a lot from the newcomers - their rawness, desire to work hard and passion to excel touches you.

And contrary to reports in the media, director Shimit (Amin) and I had no fallout - I've known him since our Asoka days, he's very bright," he says.

While most of B-town's superstars have little business sense, SRK is reported to have sold the worldwide rights of OSO for a whopping Rs 75 crore, is in talks with Anuradha Prasad to co-produce TV shows and has mega plans for the Red Chillies VFX wing.

I wish I was getting that amount for OSO, though I admit that thanks to the many avenues, like satellite and music rights, producers get to earn more money from films. In 2004, Main Hoon Na opened to Rs 5 crore, today most films make more money than that in the first weekends. As for TV, Anu is an old friend and she wants me to produce a show for her TV channel. So I have asked my Red Chillies team to make a presentation in November about TV shows and we'll take it from there."

SRK who'd once planned a film studio in Mumbai sounds disheartened when he says "that's not happening anymore. Land's very expensive in Mumbai and I can't afford it. I am very satisfied with the VFX and we at Red Chillies have been doing (Main Hoon Na, Paheli, Don, Honeymoon Travels, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, OSO, Chak De) -we are just about breaking even and aren't in the profit mode yet.

I want to attract work for us from outside. The problem is that final VFX assimilation in India works out to be very expensive and needs visualisers. I am planning a film with Shankar and we'll be looking at lots of VFX for that. I want to give back to the industry by improving the quality of special effects."

SRK claims he owes his new trim avatar to "a regular workout regime to combat a nagging backpain and to please son Aryan. I can never look like a hunk, but being fit helps. I didn't lose weight for a film, it just happened over a period of time." As talk veers to his relationship with Amitabh Bachchan, SRK confesses that he's no longer "upset with idle gossip anymore.

There never was any friction between us. Recently Mr Bachchan sent me a branded jacket after I won the French award and I sent him one too. We keep interacting with each other. There never has been any awkwardness between us."

Once the greasepaint comes off, SRK likes to read, play football with friends, play games on his laptop, teach his children, attend their sports/annual day functions and plans his work schedule "according to their vacation." On his wishlist are: "a happy, healthy life for my children, lots of good work for me, the latest i-phone, some land for my studio and more hours in a day.

Otherwise I am fairly content, reasonably well-paid and think God's been partial to me. Amen to that.

I 'Khan' act too!

SRK's wife Gauri shot for Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om recently. "She was a natural before the camera," our source reveals

Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri shot a sequence for Om Shanti Om early this week. The superstar's wife Gauri makes her Bollywood debut with this big-budget film, directed by Farah Khan. We hear that the sequence will be part of the end-credit song.

Say Farah Khan, "Yes, Gauri shot for me yesterday. It was for my traditional end-credit song where all the technicians and crew members feature. She was supposed to shoot for me for Main Hoon Na too, but last time she ditched me because she was too shy to come in front of the camera, but this time she finally agreed. She said she's doing it only for me but I am sure her husband had something to do with it since she's the official producer of the film."

However, this is not the first time that the celebrity wife is working with hubby SRK. Gauri had a humble start by managing the costume and wardrobe department of Shah Rukh's early films including Baazigar (1993), Darr (1993), Anjaam (1994) and Ram Jaane (1995). She was only dressing her husband then. Later, she turned producer with Main Hoon Naa (2004) and Paheli (2005) and the same continues with Om Shanti Om.

Says a unit member close to Shah Rukh, "Gauri has been actively involved with most of SRK's films. She used to go shopping for his clothes. She was completely at ease when she shot for us on Monday at Film City."

It didn't come as a surprise, as Farah has handed out cameo roles to lyricist Javed Akhtar, music director Vishal Dadlani and all crew members. Farah had told Mumbai Mirror earlier, "Since the film is set in early 70's Bollywood it wasn't difficult for me to accommodate all of them. All my assistant directors, light men and other help on the sets have parts in the film."

Shah Rukh bares it all…

From Shah Rukh Khan getting back in shape for 'Chak De' to Kamal Hassan sporting an authentic George Bush look in his upcoming film… the actors of Indian cinema are raring to go that extra mile to get into the skin of their reel characters…Indiatimes Movies tells you more…

Shah Rukh Khan

Apparently Shah Rukh Khan lost weight for his upcoming film 'Chak De India' to actually look the part he plays in the film. SRK plays a hockey coach in Chak De and to suit the role, he apparently underwent a strenuous work out regime to lose his excess flab. Not just that, SRK also sports stubble in the film to help him get that much needed 'rugged' look. The King Khan is also gymming of late like never before! Even if he's had a long, exhausting day at work - the man hits the gym with vengeance as he will be posing bare-chested for the first time in a song for the film Om Shanti Om and wants to look perfect for the same.

Akshay Kumar in OM SHANTI OM

August 11, 2007 8:38:20 PM IST
Abid, Bollywood Trade News Network

Farah Khan's Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Pudukone and Shreyas Talpade starrer, OM SHANTI OM, has been adding a new name to its cast everyday. Almost anyone and everyone in Bollywood is essaying a role in the film. While most of them are playing themselves, some are essaying cameos.

However, three prominent names, Dev Anand, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar, were not a part of the project, till a few days back. While evergreen Dev Anand made it clear that he does not believe in blink-and-miss appearances, Aamir Khan has his own 'personal' reasons for not being there in OM SHANTI OM. But the good news is that Akshay Kumar will now be seen in OM SHANTI OM. We must add that It is not clear whether he is playing himself or is essaying a cameo.

Sshhhh… meet Shah Rukh Khan's new lady love!

She is sexy, stunning and the lucky one to begin her filmy career with Shah Rukh Khan. Meet the rising supermodel turned actor Deepika Padukone.

A star was discovered

Liril, known for launching promising 'fresh' faces continued their tradition by launching Bangalore based model Deepika Padukone in their Ad about two years ago.

Since then there is no looking back for this gorgeous model who has made her foray into Bollywood with Farah Khan's highly awaited film 'Om Shanti Om' to be released in November 2007.

Family Background

Daughter of ace Badminton player Prakash Padukone and Ujjwala Padukone, Deepika was born on 5th January 1986 in Mangalore, Karnataka. She has done her schooling in Bangalore.

Though she herself played Badminton during her school days and played the sport at a state level, she did not take her game to the national level as she always wanted to pursue a career in Modelling and films.

Modelling career

Deepika has been modelling for quite some time now and has also bagged some huge brands under her kitty. Be it her role as the brand ambassador of 'Maybelline New York', one of the most popular 'Kingfisher calendar' models, Limca, Parachute hair oil or Close-Up toothpaste… Deepika has bagged biggies and the future seems blindingly bright! That's not it!

At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards, for Indian models and designers, Deepika won the title of the 'Model of the Year' award. She also bagged two trophies at the Idea Zee F Awards in 2006 - Female Model of the year (Commercial Assignments) and Fresh Face of the year..

Bollywood Calling

After shaking a leg in Himesh Reshammiya's hit dance video Naam Hai Tera from the album Aap Ka Suroor, Deepika is all set to debut opposite none other than the king Khan 'Shah Rukh'! The lovely lass will be seen romancing SRK in Farah Khan's film, 'Om Shanti Om' which will release in November. The choreographer-director Farah has kept Deepika under wraps till November, as she would like Deepika to be presented in front of the media only before the release of her much awaited film.

If rumours are to be believed the lovely lass has also apparently been signed by ace directors Priyadarshan and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra for their forthcoming films…

Love Life

Although Deepika has never spoken about her love life post her break up with ex model boyfriend Nihar Pandya, she has apparently been seen with Rishi Kapoor's son Ranbir Kapoor at various discos and other events in Mumbai. The actress shies away from answering any questions pertaining to Ranbir and says that they are just 'good friends'! If sources are to be believed Deepika has even become the hot favorite of Shah Rukh Khan on the sets of Om Shaanti Om and things are getting hotter between the two! "I've grown up watching Shah Rukh Khan and never really imagined that one day I will get to play the lead opposite him" says Deepika about her rapport with SRK.

OSO is the next biggie for Vishal - Shekhar

August 14, 2007 1:58:40 PM IST
Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Trade News Network

After coming out with 'enjoy-with-a-bucket-of-popcorn-and-a-pitcher-of-coke' soundtrack in CASH, Vishal and Shekhar have now their eyes now set on OM SHANTI OM.

Inarguably the biggest release of 2007, OSO by Farah Khan is creating all the right buzz both within and outside in the industry. Same holds good for the film's soundtrack which is said to be wonderfully entertaining to say the least.

Select few who had an opportunity to hear the sneak preview of the songs have only positives to say for the music of OSO. Meanwhile makers prefer to keep mum before the eventual release of the soundtrack in mid-September.

As per sources, publicity of the film is expected to kick start towards end of August and there would be no respite from there on as the promotion gets into full swing. The film is aiming at a November release.
