i think good movies do have a hold on us to some degree. many a times we can project ourselves onto the characters and feel and think as they do because we can relate to them on a personal level. other times, the story and artful acting make the characters real for us, even if we can separate them from ourselves. we would then feel for them as much as we might feel for another person in real life. in either case, with a good movie, there's a feeling of personal connection that has the power to move us.
oh, and for some examples, who can not but feel moved by those sorry movie characters who think the entire world is out to get them? the Peter Lorre characters are so dramatic, no?๐ of course when they are not being foolish and contemptible too. but whatever, we do get moved by them, no?
then there's the cuckoo in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. so easy to identify with such cuckoo-heads and wackos in real-life, me thinks.๐
and yes, there's also Animal House. great flick. sorta shows the kind of zoo that some folks can easily create out of a great institution, doesn't it? oh, those college years! these movies can really send us back to those times, cant they?
simple examples, each to show how we feel connected to our movies and why they can move us. more where they came from but hopefully these shld suffice for now to make my point.๐
