Didi,
the year when Mohobbatein was released, Kaho naa pyaar hain also got released.. And according to popularity, Kaho naa pyaar hain had to get its award.. But as srk was also nominated, they gave him critics award.. And yeah, srk did a good job in mohobbatein.. That year was one more history - the debut actor got the best actor as well as best debut actor award..

Usually, all non popular film awards got into the critics category, but tat year they gave it to srk.. Also during wen Koi mil gaya was released Hrithick got critics as well as popular category, its the same case when Black was released..

Anu - shouldnt the Critics award not be influenced by popularity or non-popularity at all. So it will not be right if only the non popular movies get the critics awards.

Also, just because Hrittik got the popular and debu award for the year, and SRK though nominated could not get it, does not mean that the critics award has to be bestowed on him.. When they have him the critics award for 'Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na', that was perfectly fine - as it was one of the finer performances of him. He could have got it for 'Swades', but a movie like Mohabbatein certainly did not deserve it.

Shabana's performance in 15 Park Avenue would be her one of the top 5 performance.. which in itself is a great thing, as she is her own benchmark... Konkona was also brilliant in the movie... just awesome... The story goes that Aparna Sen had initially offered the role of Mithi to Rani Mukherjee, but Rani refused.. And I only thank God for that...

i dont know what is popular or what is critics but having known the philosophy of TOI
the policy is whoever is required to grace the next cover of filmfare is the winner whether critics or popular

can anaybody say why shah rukh got so many awards over the last 10 yrs
they even invented the filmfare power awards because in that year shah rukh had not had even a single award winning performance of note in eithetr categories but they needed him to sell in the "overseas market" the filmfare awards

Thank you Jayadi.
This list is rather astonishing. Some stalwart actoresses never got due recognition...and some got undeserving glory 😕 Golmal hai bhai sab golmal hai!

The trends are actually rather baffling...they don't even follow "popular" choices. Considering are opinions differ so greatly from the list.

So is "filmfare" really the benchmark to go by? This brings up another point...how do these awards compare to awards from different sources for the same categories and years...

Yes Jaya, I wonder about Tabu, her movie Astitva is extremely good(My POV) I do not see her getting award for that movie.
