I think, if we really want to look at honoring the talent, Filmfare just may not be the right awards... We should look at the National Awards... They are more performance driven.. But unfortunately, some backstage politics has taken that over as well...

Jaya, filmfare awards are based on popular public vote. So you cannot expect the best talent to get honored. To address this criticism, filmfare introduced critics awards in 90s. Critics awards for best performance started in 1990. Till 1997, the award was given to single performance (male or female) and from 1997 the awards are given for male and female performances. The critics awards and popular awards never matched except for 2006 when Amitabh and Rani won the best actor awards in both popular and critics categories.

You are right Salil'ji. It will be interesting to see the list of Critics choice awards winners, to see how much were the critics successful in recognizing the talent.

Now let me see... Urmila won the critics' award for 'Bhoot'? I didn't know she actually 'acted' in it. 😕 It was very very natural 😉 😆

Oh I see that Aish has won an award too, few years back. Wonder if it involved attractive and nubile flora, or did the movies actually have human beings? 😛

Tabu is surely one of the strongest female actors that we have seen in recent times. I have a lot of hopes from Konkona SenSharma as well. Strange again to see SRK getting a critics award for Mohobbatein 😕 On could only be critical about that movie, nothing else!

Didi,
the year when Mohobbatein was released, Kaho naa pyaar hain also got released.. And according to popularity, Kaho naa pyaar hain had to get its award.. But as srk was also nominated, they gave him critics award.. And yeah, srk did a good job in mohobbatein.. That year was one more history - the debut actor got the best actor as well as best debut actor award..

Usually, all non popular film awards got into the critics category, but tat year they gave it to srk.. Also during wen Koi mil gaya was released Hrithick got critics as well as popular category, its the same case when Black was released..

Filmfare popular category award is being selected by how popular is the movie.. I think this time, they wl definitely hv tough decisions to make.. Thr r many movies which became huge hit..

I think Konkona or Shabana should get the best actress award for 15 park Avenue. Both were excellent in that. It's the only movie apart from Lage Raho Munnabhai I liked last year.

I agree with u sahanaji.. Even RDB was good.. In star screen awards, it was Kareena Kapoor who grabbed the award for Omkara 😕
