In ADHM Ranbir was making fun of Anushka about her anxiety medication, she responded well you do drugs hinting he smell from nose. To that Ranbir got angry and said this is not to be joke about.

Being messy doesn’t make him look younger.  It just reinforces all the drinking rumors.  In movies it’s probably part of the director’s vision or idea of a certain look.  In real life he’s either high or wants attention.  For instance:
