CHAPTER 7

8:30 PM in Dev and Vidhi's bed room

"I am pregnant, Dev ji", Vidhi said, showing him the positive pregnancy test. She was smiling, atleast she was trying to, her eyes were swollen and red, seemed like she had been crying. She looked at Dev expecting some reaction from him. She remembered how he was over the moon, the last time when he came to know he was going to be a dad. It was different this time, she knew it would be, but still her eyes searched for that big, cheerful smile of his, she was waiting for that tight, excited hug, that wild happiness on his face. 

Dev was still processing the news. Did he hear it right? Is Vidhi angry? This wasn't their plan. Vidhi was supposed to complete her MBA first. What is going to happen now? Will she… she won't…. Dev feared the worst. He kept looking at her, with dilated pupils, and jaws dropped open. He tried to say something but felt choked. A mixture of different emotions were hailing a storm inside of him. He was shocked, ashamed, and deep down, maybe he was happy but equally very, very terrified. His eyes started brimming with tears. 

Seeing him this way, Vidhi held his hands. She sat him down on the bed and herself sat close to him. Dev couldn't face her. He looked down. His conscience was giving him a hard time. He should have been more careful. This was all his fault. He had no right to burden her this way, in the middle of her ongoing studies when they had clearly decided that they were going to wait. He hid his face in his palms anxiously. For the first time in his life, he was completely blank. He had no idea how to deal with this situation, what to say or what to do. Finally gathering the courage, he spoke up, "I am sorry, Vidhi. Mujhe aur savdhaani parakhna chahiye tha. I… I am so sorry. Woh raat, ab tum bhi shayad sorry feel kar rahi hogi uske liye. Tssk… I am sorry, Vidhi." 

"Sorry?", Vidhi was surprised, "Aap khush nahi hai Dev ji?"

"Tum ho?", Dev asked, looking at her. 

"Ofcourse main khush hoon… Main bahut khush hoon, Dev ji. Jab mujhe pata chala main apne aansu rok nahi paayi. Main fir se maa banne waali hoon, Dev ji. Yeh humara bachcha hai, aapka aur mera, humari pyaar ki nishaani. Jab yeh nahi tha toh nahi tha, lekin ab isse zyada mere liye iss puri duniya mein zaruri aur kuch nahi hai", she said, placing her hand on her stomach. "Haan aur ek aur baat, uss raat ke liya kya… aapke saath bithaya huya ek bhi raat, ek bhi pal ke liye, I'll never be sorry", Vidhi's eyes were fierce. 

"Tum… lekin tumhari padhai.. Kaise manage.. College", Dev fumbled. 

"Yeh sab abhi mujhe nahi pata lekin main itna jaanti hoon ki main kar lungi. Milapini Maa hai mere saath. Woh humein rasta dikhayenge. Unhone hi bheja hai fir se isse humare paas. Yeh saare purane zakm bhar dega aur dekhna sab thik hoga iss baar. Aap humesha kehte ho na ki bhagwan apna toughest battle apne strongest soldier ko hi dete hai. Main toh confident hoon ki sab achche se ho jayega. Aap nahi ho? Aap doge na mera saath Dev ji? Main jahan nahi kar paayi, jahan chuk gayi, wahan aap sambhal lena. Aap pichli baar mera kitna dhyaan rakh rahe the, iss baar thoda sa aur rakh lena. Humara bachcha hai Dev ji, hum dono jee jaan laga denge, zyada mehnat karenge, usse dher sara pyaar denge, uska khayal rakhenge, kabhi aap thoda zyada rakhna, kabhi main rakhungi", her voice broke as she talked about taking care about her baby. Her eyes welled up. She was overjoyed with the news. She was going to be a mother again. Nothing could compare to the happiness this news had given her but seeing Dev react like this was breaking her heart. He still hadn't for once smiled. He just nodded to what Vidhi said. Last time he was on cloud nine, dancing and what not, but this time he just sat there without energy, teary-eyed. 

Vidhi took his hand and placed it on her stomach. He immediately pulled back. He clutched the bedsheets tightly and kept looking down, hiding his tears from her. 

"Dev ji aap…", Vidhi was in dismay. She stood before him and held his face, making him look up.

"Mujhe bahut darr lag raha hain Vidhi. Main firse…", Dev couldn't contain himself any longer. He burst out crying. 

Vidhi wasn't expecting this. His hands were shaking and he was struggling to breathe. He looked so weak. She had never seen him like this before. She put her arms around him and pulled him close. She kissed his head and rubbed his back. 

These were the tears that Dev had held in himself to act strong infront of her, to take care of her after the miscarriage. Everybody, him included, always looked out for Vidhi then, but nobody took a moment to look at his face. All those unshed tears, the pain, the trauma he buried in himself were finally surfacing. He had built a whole world for his kid, he had dreamt about his kid every moment until suddenly, just like that someone said, "Hum aapke bachche ko bacha nahi paaye." His whole world had shattered infront of his eyes and he couldn't even cry his heart out back then. He was hurt, he felt betrayed but couldn't share his feelings with anyone. Instead he had to act like things were okay, they would be normal soon. He was always there when Vidhi needed someone to hold her but maybe when he needed someone, he found himself alone. He battled through his grief in his own way. He started running from the truth, started diverting his attention to other things but now that he was going to be a dad again, he was overwhelmed. All those feelings came rushing back to him. He didn't have the courage to do it altogether again. He was mortified. 

He sniffed and took deep breaths as he came out of Vidhi's embrace. Vidhi couldn't hold back her tears seeing and realising what all he was going through. It was a tragedy how he had felt an ocean but could express only few drops. She felt sorry for him. Everybody was so concerned tending to her that nobody realised that not only the mother, but the father had lost his child too. He was going through the same phase of grief and even he needed the same tender love and care but Alas!! 

She kissed his forehead and wiped his face with her dupatta. She ran her fingers through his hair until Dev calmed down. "Puraani baatein bhul jaiyye Dev ji. Unn baaton ko yaad karke ab koi fayda nahi hai. Aage ka sochte hain. Nayi shuruwaat karte hai. Please, Dev ji. Iss baar sab kuch thik hoga, main aapse wada karti hoon. Main kuch nahi hone dungi aapke bachche ko. Nau mahine baad ek chota sa Dev humare god mein khel raha hoga", Vidhi joined her hands like she was holding a baby. 

Dev looked at her. She had the biggest, most confident and radiant smile. He tried to smile too. He looked at her stomach. It was his baby, his and Vidhi's. He stretched out his hand. He gathered himself and placed his hand on it, his hands still shaking. "Choti si Vidhi", he said. Vidhi laughed and nodded, "Okay." 

"Baat nahi karenge usse?", she asked. Dev looked up at her. A sob came out as he caressed her stomach gently. Those dreams he had bundled up and threw in one corner tiptoed towards him once again. He pulled Vidhi closer and placed his head against her stomach. He said, "Baby, papa pura dhyaan rakhenge aapka aur mamma ka. Koi takleef nahi hone denge aap dono ko. Papa promise karte hai aap dono ke liye papa sab kuch karenge. Lekin iss baar aap ko bhi ek promise karna hai ki aap koi bhi shararat nahi karenge, aur jald se jald mumma papa ke paas aajayenge." This last line of his made Vidhi cry too. Tears rolled down Vidhi's cheeks as she leaned down and planted a kiss on his head. 

They remained in that exact position for a long, long time. Dev hugged and kissed Vidhi's stomach time and again. Moonlight accompanied by the cool, gentle winds entered their room through the window to be a part of their precious moment. The wind on its way out blew over Dev's diary, the pages fluttered haphazardly until one page rested strong and steady. It was a page dated 30th June, 2023, written on it was  'Dev ka DE aur Vidhi ka VI - DEVI RAICHAND.'

Aapne toh poora emotional kar diya!! Thank you for the very quick update!. Wonderful zen moment you created there for Vidhi. 

Chapter 7 was very emotional, ViDev are gonna be parents, yaay, last three paragraphs were lovely, dev saying choti si vidhi. aww. 

What an emotional update.. 🥺🥺 

That was the most awaiting thing which i crave to see in the show.. Dev's breakdown & Vidhi consoling him.. 

Why do we always just think about a mother who lost her child but not the father that he also has lost his child.. 🥺🥺 

But the way you portrayed the whole scenes just brings tears to my eyes.. ❤️❤️ really love the update continue soon ❤️❤️
