What are films, filmmakers, songs, films, stars you liked or enjoyed earlier but slowly grew to dislike them or regret liking it at all and later felt it was not as good as you liked earlier? And perhaps cannot stand it now or feel guilty for liking or watching that stuff at all?

For me it would be David Dhawan and Govinda comedies from 90s. I enjoyed them a lot as a kid but now I realise how repetitive, crap, problematic they were and there was no great comedy or humour either. The sexism, jokes on disabilities are cringe AF.

What about you?

SRK-Kajol jodi

I used to ship them as a kid, but now just find them overrated as hell

I like SRK-Juhi jodi more as an adult

I clicked this topic expecting Taylor and Joe discussions. šŸ˜†

KKHH is one movie I used to love when I was younger, but it has lost its magic now at how problematic Kajol's transformation and the end is.

Dil is another movie I swooned over as a kid. Looking back it's so toxic. The constant harassment of Madhuri by Aamir's character. Then the false accusation of attempted rape by her against him. It's all so gross.

There are also many movies that I still enjoy but have cringe and ick moments. Like Madhuri being made to marry her brother-in-law in HAHK or the train bra scene in DDLJ.

Movies

1. Kuch kuch hota hai

The reason for shah to fall in love with Kajol is immature.

2. Gharwali baharwali (anilkapoor one)

The whole movie is problematic and promotes bigamy. Bachpan me achha lagta tha. Ab ghatiya.

3. Naseeb apna apna.

Rishi Kapoor's character should have been punished for his bigamy but they had to kill the 2nd woman without having any fault of her. kya hi tha.

4. I had this huge huge huge crush on Ali Zafar. But his bad acting pushed my of awe for him away. One of the most beautiful face i have ever seen. Good old days. Now a days i just scroll away whatever I see of him.

5. Chori chori chupke chupke

It was wrong in so many level. Everyone desired a pota.

Artificial insemination isn't an old technology come on. They didn't have to go all the way.

Etc etc etc

I agree with all of these films and scenes.

Especially Dil, which is toxic and horrible AF with that fake rape charge Madhuri puts on Aamir and mock rape attempt Aamir does on Madhuri to make her realise what it means to be raped, cheap jokes, total harassment passed off as love.

DDLJ, HAHK, Raja Hindustani, KKHH are also regressive AF. I liked only KKHH as a kid. The rest, I never liked much anyway.

All of these are terribly cringe films and I must admit I never liked them in first place except KKHH which I find totally sexist and weird now, besides illogical.

Yes, the movie Dil has many objectionable parts, like most movies from that period, but

for some reason that's one of the few movies from the era I find watchable even now..

It must be the pacing

Can't say that for most BW movies, I fond them boring and dragging and unwatchable now

I used to have a crush on Salman Khan and now a part of me dies every second when I remember this trauma.

I loved old Bollywood movies as a kid and romanticized fighting for your love against your family or having a protective lover. Older now, I find Bollywood movies incredibly flawed in the sense there’s very few strong female characters and movies where they don’t propagate misogynistic views
