I started to watch the movie with the impression it will have some dark humour....but then, it turned out to seriously challenge the hero outside his reel life using skills he 'normally' would display in a movie without me getting the vibe of satire... and - contrary to Andhadhun - it seemed to me that Ayushman took himself serious in becoming an action hero in 'real' (film-)life.
There are multiple elements to the film. What you caught on is the thriller aspect... where he's using whatever "action" he does on screen to actually survive in real life.
**spoilers ahead**
The satire aspect is primarily - as I remember - supplied by following elements:
1. The portrayal of media, how they create a mountain out of a molehill, and keep changing the narratives. I didn't even recognize the female anchors, but Arnab guy was on-point, and the narrative they showed was actually funny because it was almost reality...
2. Katkar character. He is undoubtedly based off of India's #1 Most Wanted guy -> Dawood Ibrahim, he was/is an underworld don. There IS a strong belief in India that he's somewhere in Pakistan. And they show him chilling out in London... Also, its rumored underworld used to make a lot of Bollywood stars perform at their functions, which you see referenced multiple times... including the gestures made by Malaika
3. Depiction of the way police force is treated by politicians, and also how they carry out their investigation...
Apart from this, dark humor stems from the nonchalant almost stylish violence shown on screen... Tarantino-esqe... I actually blurted out laughing when Katkar got killed...
Everyone that I know in real life, that has watched this movie loved it. But movies are subjective, and its quite likely many wont enjoy this one... 👍🏼
