Shraddha murder case is trending all over and it is reported that the killer BF said he was inspired by Dexter series to kill the girl the way he did and dispose her body the way he did.
12 years ago there was another similar murder case in Dehdradun in which husband murdered wife, stored pieces of her body in fridge and dumped pieces of body in different parts of forest areas in Mussoorie. He too admitted he was inspired by Hollywood films to do this act.
I do think films, TV shows, web series desensitise one towards violence and make it acceptable or some entertainment and also give ideas to potential criminals or psychopaths on what a person could do. Violence is shown as sign of power or assertion. Either by hero or villain.
And at times when one is angry, one fantasises about subjecting someone to brutality, same kind that one has seen on film or TV.
Murder fantasies or wish to kill someone are fairly common in anger.
Not the first time films or shows have been mentioned as inspiration for mode of crime.
Should content of films and shows be regulated? Are we destroying society and mental health of young people in name of creative freedom and entertainment?
