So pretty privilege isn't real in film industry?

Sidharth Malhotra Says Good Looks Proved To Be 'Negative' In His Career; 'People Like To See Superficial Things..'

Over a decade ago, Karan Johar launched Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra in the hit Student Of The Year movie. The trio went on to become quite successful in their endeavours, establishing themselves as top actors of Bollywood. However, their breakthroughs came on different occasions.

Sidharth Malhotra, unlike his fellow co-stars, had a slew of flops before hitting the jackpot with the audience as well as the critics in the 2021 blockbuster Shershaah. Over the years, the 37-year-old also gained the reputation of being one of the most handsome actors in Bollywood. But that did not always work out in his favour.

In an interview with India Today, Sidharth Malhotra opened up about the setbacks of being good-looking as an actor, quite ironic for a film industry that thrives on vanity. ''I never thought that being easy on the eyes would be a negative in this profession. I thought we were here to face the camera and be easy on the eyes, but sometimes it tends to be negative,''

''People like to see superficial things and not really connect to them,'' Malhotra added. In the interview, he also opened up about how failures affect him. ''I have seen the extremes in business. The first film and the third film were more than what I had expected and some of them did the opposite. It does take a toll on any kind of artist,'' Sidharth Malhotra concluded.

As someone who thinks he’s a lot more than the “wooden plank” he’s been called I agree with him. I think people don’t always look past his good looks.

Well a part of me always felt Aish never got her due as an actress. I mean for someone who gave as many good performances as her. Taal, Raincoat, Choker Bali, Kunadein Kunadein, Devdas, Hum Dil de Chuke Sanam, provoked, Jodha Akbar, and Iruver were all critically acclaimed. There are some here who would rate nepos like Sara over her. She at the very least is a self-made woman. So I think he does have a point.

I guess I understand what he means. However, his good looks did not guarantee his success, and it definitely did not help him get meaty roles as such. Honestly, his acting also doesn't help.
