Yes, its been almost a month but I am back with a new update!
A note before we proceed: This story is fictional so even if it consists of mentions to the Armed Forces and related things, fact-based, it won't be so.
Also, I do not intend to hurt anyone's sentiments if the facts are not accurate and to the point.

It had been a little more than a year and a half since Arjun and Riya last met at lunch a week before Arjun went to Assam. Despite her fears and hesitations, they had got along exceptionally well! Post their first meeting at Starbucks, they had met five more times in the weeks leading to his departure. Even during his posting, he stole a few moments from his heavy schedule to talk to her over voice call. They spoke about things from their favorite movies and leisure places to parenting and plans for the future. Well, they had not spoken about plans of being together but they were surely weaving threads of imagination that time and again led them to each other.
It had been a week since Arjun had returned from his posting in Assam. Thank the universe it had been a time of peace while he was there. Unstable? Yes. Yet having no rounds of heavy firing, insurgencies or casualties could be considered peace for sure. The past week had gone in debriefing and trauma assessment and counselling which was a part of regular armed forces welfare operations.
Tomorrow however, was going to be an exciting day. Arjun had officially asked Riya to the Annual Armed Forces Ball, which was as good as an unofficial proposal that she had gracefully accepted just enough to not let him know how her heart soared over the moon with euphoria!
The Annual Ball
The venue was an epitome of palatial sophistication. Majestic chandeliers hung high duly complementing the beautifully carved ceiling. Light instrumental music played which interweaved so beautifully with the clinking of glasses, it created a soft melody of its own.
Officers of the Armed Forces and their better halves intermingled with their counterparts and held suave and polished conversations while some groups shared inside jokes and laughed among themselves.
Arjun had just reached and was waiting for Riya to arrive. He looked dapper in his midnight black 3 piece tuxedo suit with his hair slicked back. A hint of his Chanel cologne could get no lady swooning, but one, who stood at the threshold of the venue dressed in a onyx black saree with a Grecian neckline blouse. She was adorned by dainty diamond earrings from Cartier with her hair in a bun.
It was breathtaking, the moment he saw her. It had been a long time since he had seen her in person yet it felt as though she had not aged a day. Well, she had, but in comparison to her ever twinkling eyes and her lips curved into a radiant smile, a freckle here and a stress-induced pimple there had made no difference to him. she was like fine wine to him. After adorning her from afar, he strode forward to greet her and bring her into the humongous ballroom.
"You look beautiful." he whispered into her ear, startling her. As she turned towards him, her elation shone through misty eyes. As a new nightly ritual a year and a half back, she had started praying to her gods for his safety while at work. Now looking at him before her eyes made her realize she couldn't wait any long to do this. She had always been the hesitant one, but now that he was here, she decided to take the plunge. Sliding her hands around his torso, she brought him into her warm embrace which he promptly responded to. The world around them seized to exist for the moment. It was them, their fluttering feelings and their synchronously beating hearts that escaped into the fleeting moments of stolen time and new-found love. To those around them witnessing this moment, it was just a 6 second embrace but to them it felt like an eternity.
As slowly as ever they came back to reality when they heard a slow played version Waltz no 2 by Dmitri Shostakovich play on the system. In no time, couples filled in the ballroom to gracefully dance to the tunes. Arjun looked at Riya and extended his hand, as though asking her 'Can I have this dance?' to which she graciously placed her hand in his, accepting the offer. hand in hand, they squeezed their way between the dancing couples to reach the center of the room. They were not the center of attention for others, but they were at the center of the infinite universe, dancing beat by beat in impeccably graceful circles followed by twirls. So light on their feet and elegant in their postures, they could be easily mistaken for seasoned dancers. However, they were merely dancing harmoniously in tune with each other.
A while after the zest of dancing faded away, couples were once again in groups, communicating with friends and the higher ups.
"What a beautiful dance for a young and in-love couple," said a familiar voice.
"Indeed," sounded another.
Quickly turning towards the source of the voice, Riya saw her parents, smiling wide at her hand entangled in Arjun's.
"Maa, papa! Oh god I've missed you guys so much!" she exclaimed in surprise and wrapped her arms around them. seconds later, coming out of the embrace she began introducing Arjun, "Mom, dad this is.."
"Arjun, we know." said her father before she could say so herself.
"Beta, you better take care of her even when you are not around, warna.."
"Samaj gaya sir. Lekin kya sir, aap mera dialogue mujhi pe marne wale the?" said Arjun chuckling at his senior's remark.
"Ab kya kare beta, it was quite an enticing opportunity so I took it. Waise yeh Riya ki maa ka idea tha." quipped her father, side glancing his adorable wife who stood smiling.
"Really mom, aap bhi!" Riya spoke feigning shock, resulting in a hearty laughter from the other three.
