Because, like the OG, this was also an elitist type of classist film.

Was the original an elitist film

It was an enormous success at the box office when released

Aamir made a comback in 2008 also with a South REMAKE, that film broke Records, our 1st 100 cr film, a phenomenon which was still new to conquer.

This time he chose a Subject which had a very niche audience. This was Drama genre, his character wasn't some regular guy, then north indian setup, all things sum up in trailer which itself didn't click with audience.

Give him another film with new concept & popular genre, he can rock big like anything.

1 more thing I would like to add, Salman with Drama genre Bharat gave a 41 Cr opening, he doesn't have that crazy fan following which will rush to theatres just to watch him. He need that pull in his films to attract audience, earlier he did with flying colors, this time he got overconfident on that pull.

I don't think Suriya's Ghajini's Hindi dub exists even today. If it had existed and Aamir's Ghajini had came out now, it won't be as big a Blockbuster as it was. Might as well have Flopped because of comparisons with the Tamil film and Memento.  Social media didn't exist in 2008 like today. People weren't that aware about movies being remakes or being copied.

Now they know because of internet, social media and OTT platforms. They also have access to movies all over the world. Bollywood audience can also more easily relate to South movies compared to Hollywood or other foreign films.

Dangal very much comes under drama genre, and the theme of wrestling is also not very interesting or exciting for Bollywood audience. But the trailer and the movie added massy elements in the film. Like the movie didn't need narration but they added it because the audience needs humour. To make wrestling more interesting, they shot it like action scenes in Bollywood movies. Title track and Dhaakad song was hit with the audience. LSC needed such commercial elements to click with the masses.

According to Kareena it was "elitist" and "classist".

I'm not getting this logic here. How would anyone know if they liked the film or not, WITHOUT watching it?😆

But the Academy has praised it as a faithful adaptation

So if it gets a nomination or a win that would show those Indians who didn't go to the theatres to watch it, or the bigoted bhakts and put them in their place

The common man was able understand the movie plot. Many people do understand the pain of being leaving your homeland for families safety. Bhool Bhulaiyaa one was a superhit.

Additionally, I believe that WOM increased TKF's business because viewers praised the film and especially its gripping closing.

Although few people did praise LSC , many felt let down by the film's second half, and there were some controversies after the film's release regarding the Pakistani guy, malaria, etc.

LSC had a lot of bad press, whilst TKF received good coverage.

Furthermore, after TKF's release, there were discussions on how BW people aren't actively promoting or supporting it, therefore audience members should see it in theatres and lend their support.  After hearing how the misery of KPs is swept aside and seldom brought up in public discourse, people's empathy increased.
