Age gap couple stories onscreen, what's your observation?

Age gap couple stories are not new on Indian onscreen be it TV shows or films or web shows. Felt we can discuss around this topic here as Radha Mohan seems to be trying hard to bring it onscreen.

If we have look at old or recent hindi TV shows and do read synopsis of story lines or about man lead characters, Kasamhse, Kehta hai Dil, Kuch to Log Kehenge, Astitva, Parichay, Aapke aaja nese are some popular hindi serials that were written and also promoted as AGE GAP couple stories from the begining and casting was also APPROPRIATELY done.👍🏼 And most of these couples were shipped onscreen with considerable fan following. 

Age has LEAST to do with deep love and societal, family and individual complexities are not easy to handle in such age gap stories, that was intent of content shown in above old TV shows. And chemistry was still built between lead couples through their portrayal and characterizations, even if physically they looked odd, be it older man-young woman as a couple or older woman-young man as a couple, and it seems most often such couples were shown well educated and had some complimentary qualities. though from different backgrounds altogether.😊

Kumkumbhagya NEVER had severe age gap couple plots for any of its key characters, so we have no idea how writers and directors could have handled such age gap pairs. 

Here Radhamohan is touted more as devotee & her worship to her Lord story turned into love story as per makers. But catch, is Zeetv and Zee5 are directly claiming from day one of RM launch in their show synopsis, that Radha has been loving Mohan since her childhood.🤔And in show's episodes there's repeated reference that Radha is just 20 years young innocent village girl where as Mohan is well educated, older, matured, widower man with a kid.

So what's your general observation on age gap couple stories onscreen and will the same be compelling to connect as audience in Radha Mohan? What challenges directors and writers have here to take forward this plot?😒

I think the best example to compare this show to is probably Kasam Se - there was a significant age gap between both the actors and the characters as is in this show. However, the writing for Kasam Se still made Jai and Bani work as a couple because they were able to find common ground since even though Bani was so young, the responsibilities that she took on were a parallel to Jai's and therefore I personally saw them as equals. Radha and and Mohan don't even have that, I truly can't see them as a believable couple.

It's really not needed in this show.  They could have just cast someone in their 30s and it would be more believable. This so called pairing is not. 

And such huge age gaps are creepy. Even if it's on screen. This dynamic always has much older men opposite teenage girls. 🤢Shahrukh opposite Anushka and Deepika in their initial films or Shabir opposite Neeharika. It's just gross.
