Because it was a terrible movie. I'm sorry, I just have to say it. Just because something is cinematic and dark and similar to the feel of a comic doesn't make it a good movie. That's why there's a difference between watching a movie and reading a comic book. At some point, the dark dreary feel for 3 hours became too monotonous and drawn out. It was 3 hours long and moved at the pace of a snail. Neither was it as clever as it pretended to be.

I wasn't expecting a Marvel film, but there's still a way to be dark and keep things engaging. That's what Nolan had done Batman with The Dark Knight series, the perfect balance between staying true to the feel of Gotham yet being engaging and entertaining.

Too many villains, too long a film, not enough focus, just boring.

It might not be as good as other batman movies, I also think fatigue is setting in with all the superhero movies, most of them are bad, I mean Wonder Woman 84 was downright traumatic, Spiderman became bearable only after William Dafoe and Toby McGuire got on the screen. Movies and actors who live by PR their success also goes down after some time.

😲

Shazam and Aquaman were made for kids and families. Adam West's Batman was maybe made for kids and families. But DC's Batman has always been intended for mature audiences.

Marvel has done a great job building an exciting interconnected world. As Martin Scorcese says they are theme park rides - and that is not a bad thing. It's fast-paced, exhilarating, fun, and you want to ride again and again if you can. They have built a cult of super fans who want to ride each and everyone even if it is new or unfamiliar. Even regular moviegoers are interested in the films because of the worldbuilding.

DC on the other hand has done a piss poor job with their cinematic universe. There is no worldbuilding. The interconnections are weak and not hyped up. The movies focus on the dark, brooding, and psychological aspects rather than the fun, exhilarating aspects. Batman being the darkest and broodiest - and this latest Batman is the darkest broodiest yet. Indian audiences in general do not like dark and brooding.

Also, Gotham City is a novelty factor for many westerners. Most live privileged lives devoid of filth, crime, and corruption - so something like Gotham becomes ooh edgy and interesting. But almost all non-western cities are filth, crime, and corruption - Gotham is not as novel or intriguing to most people.

The reason Nolan's Batman series succeeded is that Nolan is skilled at blending technical mastery with entertainment. Batman was dark and brooding, but there was still some well-paced action around him. It still had some fun factors of the superhero genre. The superhero genre was also newer then - currently people have some burnout and are pickier.

The reason why Joker may have succeeded is that villains generate curiosity. There's also an appreciation for beaten downtrodden everymen who get back at their tormentors. Anyone of us could be an Arthur Fleck. But Bruce Wayne is a multi-billionaire who uses his obscene wealth to fight crime. It doesn't feel as heroic or appealing. It's like imagining Jeff Bezos or Elon Musks being our saviors.

DC's Batman has been on a downward spiral since the Dark Knight trilogy ended. They have Pattinson for this one, are going with Affleck for the DCEU movies. Then Pattinson will continue his trilogy. Its all so chaotic and disconnected. Wonder what their creatives are smoking 😆.

And the movie was bland, period. The trailer wasn't great as well. They should have added a bit more of Colin Farrell. And Pattinson is no Christian Bale, so he doesn't have that kind of following amongst the DC movie fans.

Joker was a brilliant movie, dark but brilliant. Sadly this Batman was just dark, no Nolan magic to see here.

So not many factors were in its favour.

Spiderman 3 was sort of blah as well (at least in the first half) but once Tobey and AG make their entry, the film atleast became entertaining, even if it wasn't a masterpiece. Plus, the nostalgia factor worked very well for it.

(I don't even like the Spiderman home trilogy, still went to watch this one in 4dx just for Tobey❤️)

Although now that Pattinson has almost been accepted by the DC fandom, the next one (if there's one that is) should perform better at the BO.

Batman was super boring. The whole franchise in itself is boring - no exciting special effect, costume looks ridiculous, fighting scenes are amateurish, and average Joe can’t relate to poor billionaire orphan helping another poor billionaire blue eyed boy. Jason Bourne (and even James Bond) are cooler than him. The only exciting part of each Batman is Joker, not Batman himself actually. Plus this time we have a self-aware, suicidal, woke gen Y Batman and catwoman so not quite the escape people want now.

Joker (and Joaquin P) was sheer brilliance and resonated with most people bar kids.

The Batman will not meet Joker's gross anywhere in the world. The Batman is performing the way you will expect a overly long slow-burner to perform. Joker was the anomaly that exploded.

Personally, I am so tired of superhero films. How many times can the Waynes die and the pearls fly in my lifetime?

You can't compare DC movies with Marvel movies. Marvel has built a loyal fan base around the world with their cinematic universe films and with the same actors playing beloved superheroes like ironman, Spiderman, Captain America etc etc. DC tried doing it but failed and they keep rebooting their superhero films every so often.

Also Marvel movies have way more commercial appeal and are family friendly than DC films which have a darker tone.

As for Joker Vs The Batman comparison. I haven't seen the latter. But Joker, despite having a dark mood was engaging throughout and Joker's turn from an innocent man to a psychotic murderer was presented in a very entertaining way that made audience both sympathize with the character and be hooked to whatever was happening onscreen.

The Batman is getting rave reviews from critics, but I bet it is very very boring. Probably too dark and dull for Indian audience.

Also to elaborate on the Joker Vs The Batman thing. Joker was written as a character who was just meant for the big screen- the way he danced and emoted, his costume and makeup, dialogues - everything kind of became a rage back then and was endlessly emulated by fans on SM- kind of like the GanguBai reels you keep seeing on insta nowadays.

I presume the Batman doesn't have any of that. And while Batman is one of the most popular comic book superheroes around the world, his dark and brooding image does not always make a very entertaining movie.

a) The trailer sucked

b) Robert Pattison is the worst Batman EVER

c) Matt Reeves is such a downgrade from Christopher Nolan.
