Each music director had their own preferences in terms of singers because of the type of songs they made.

So Pritam generally preferred KK, Atif, Mohit Chauhan and for party songs it was Neeraj Shridhar and Mika.

Vishal-Shekhar got lots of western classical trained singers on board like Nikhil DSouza, Kunal and Gayatri Ganjawala. Vishal also sung a lot of his own songs.

Classic favourites were Sunidhi, Shreya, Shaan and Sonu.

Generally there was at least one song of Shreya and Sunidhi in every album, they were bigger than their male contemporaries imo.

Coming to Sonu, he did not have a music director pairing.

If we take two songs from major hit albums in which Sonu sang then:

If Sonu sang Nagada Nagada, you'd remember from JWM are Mauja Hi Mauja (Mika) and Ye Ishq Haaye (Shreya). The more popular version of Nagada was by Javed Ali.

In Partner, you'd remember are Soni De Nakhre (Labh Janjua) and Do You Want A Partner (Shaan and Udit). Even You're My Love was more popular than Maria Maria.

Even Dabangg, Tere Mast Mast (Rahat sahab) and Munni Badnaam Hui (Mamta Sharma) are the first two songs which will pop in your head. Then its Chori Kiya Re Jiya.

Out of all the songs Arsy's named, the only two memorable ones of Sonu during that time phase would be Shukran Allah, Zoobi-Doobi and Piyu Bole.

The fact remains that while Sonu always has been a great singer, post 2005 there were others who emerged and took the spot from him. And call it bad luck or whatsoever, but other songs from the film album did better. Even if he sang more songs, it didn't matter because other singers' songs did better.

Himesh's phase definitely impacted every singer at the time. I cannot remember a bigger genuine craze than Tera Suroor. HR's hype has to be the last organic and genuine hype there was, which actually lasted.

T-Series obviously would not hesitate to put in more money on HR and favour him because its business at the end of the day. And Sonu's tussle with them regarding royalties is a different issue. Other singers had already taken over before that.

And coming to the Royalty Issue, Recording Artists do not get royalties because they are not the Songwriters aka Composers and Lyricists. Its a global rule. Their earning happens from public performances amongst other ways.

Its a known rule and elaborating on this is...well...exhausting ðŸ˜†

Bold: I would agree with that. They both have been extremely influential. It can be seen even in present day reality shows.

As for Sonu he did make a pretty nice pair with Anu Malik. Main hoon na is peak Sonu. But unfortunately for Sonu the composers who preferred him started declining after 2006. Jatin- Lalit split after Fanna, SEL started making different kinds of albums like Rock on. ARR was still working with him but he sung a lot of his own songs and started using Mohit Chauhan and Javid Ali more.

Out of all the male singers Udit Narayan has had the most longevity. He was part of Tashan, Agneepath with Sunidhi and SOTY with Shreya it's incredible.

Udit just got few songs here and there after 2004, his time was already gone byl then , no one remembered udit song from agneepath , STOY is not entirely just few udit lines ,,,,so technically sonu had been influential since 1997 to 2013 for if you are considering udit songs post 2005 then, I would consider sonu songs post 2010 which were again more popular songs than anything udit has sung after 2004 ,like agneepath, dabang 1, dabang 2, 1920 evil return, infact till now mana ke hum yaar nahi or Sapna Jahan dastak na de are much more remembered song than any of udit song after 2006

If the critera for udit is to be there in album even in negligible portion then sonu has sung more songs during post 2010 which were got more critically acclaimed

songs like these

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sm2hNJ9c8M8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7dxX6mF0Iw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIzCpTA2p5Y

Sonu main dominance lasted till 2009 but he was more active than udit and kk and shaan till today ....

if the criteria for udit longevity which already ended in 2004, include agneepath , and STOY then Sonu has made much more longevity then udit after his peak days with more popular songs in comparison to any udit song after 2004

Got rememberd this song as well

https://youtu.be/uBgJ0J2vtRk

https://youtu.be/Rn6HPDltaWk

So preety much sonu was active till 2013-14 his tussle with music labels...

While udit narayan was once in blue moon singer  since 2004,  udit started in 1989 but was replaced by kumar sanu till 1995, while he used to sing as well but soon till 2000 sonu kk shaan all came in mainstream, udit some how had the dominance till 2004-05 but was never in monopoly, after which sonu shaan kk were at the major side out of them sonu got to sing more songs than kk shaan during 2006-2009 while there were domination of others singers as well, Sonu was not in monopoly too like udit, many more singers came in still didn't impacted much to Sonu because majority had unconventional way of singing,

the later part of post 2010 till 2013 he was preety much in big films till he got his issues when his songs from heropanti, kick, main tera hero got dubbed by others, if had his version released he must have been singing much more often then today, things would have been different, while regarding udit the songs he was comfortable with stopped working since 2004 2005....hence his singing was outdated for most of the post 2005 part till upto now
