Why Ashutosh Rana failed to sustain success?

Manoj Bajpai and Ashutosh Rana started their career around same time in mid 90s on TV and did shows like Swabhimaan, Star bestsellers etc.

Both made mark at same time in 1998 through Satya and Dushman.

Ashutosh won back to back awards for Dushman and Sangharsh and beat even likes of Amrish Puri to get best villain awards.

Both had a slump for a while, ventured into regional cinema. But while Manoj is doing films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Special 26 and web series like Family Man, and still plays young roles, it is sad how Ashutosh is only left to play dad or dada roles in commercial films. He is much more capable than just doing dad roles like Dhadak. It was sad to see him play grandpa in Hungama 2. Poor guy is not that old that he plays dadaji. I thought Hungama 2 was waste of the actor.

Why did Ashutosh fail to sustain success as an actor and did not get good roles and versatile characters like Manoj?

At times Ashutosh is nowhere to be seen except at lit fests where he flaunts his command over Hindi language and shares his own poetry.

It is weird that an actor with his skill and command over language is doing faltu roles.
