I just hope the betrayal is huge and logical that the fandom can connect with and not something like she ran away with another man for money and blah blah.
Actually, she ran away with a rich guy is still a reasonable option which could explain why he values money so much and thinks that's what the world understands. He must have felt back then that if he had money she wouldn't have left him and that made him obsessed about earning tons of money really fast (and may be the reason why he started illegal stuff). Later in life he met Pallavi, who didn't seem to be bothered by his status or money or power. She only wants his love and respect.
Now when he sees his ex, he's bound to compare his present state with his past and then realize that what he lost with Esha was probably for the best because it led him to Pallavi today in terms of love life, and success at JJ in terms of professional life.
