Part 9

It had been two days Shiva hadn’t spoken to Raavi. Every time she went to Pandya house, he either left or ignored her completely. She tried to rile him up a couple of times, but got zero response from him. When she went to the store, he went to the back room and Kaka took her order. She returned home disappointed. After that she decided that it was perhaps the best if they kept distance between them. Their relationship had never worked out. But she couldn’t bear this distance between them either.

Raavi went to Pandya house when Dhara had called her. It felt weird to go there when he wouldn’t even ask her to get out. She missed his anger and she missed their fights. Raavi walked into the house, but she slammed against Shiva, and was about to fall when he caught her by the waist. She looked into his eyes and realised how much she had really missed him. What she really wanted was to hug him tightly and fight with him. But Shiva’s face betrayed no emotions. He left here immediately and went inside. Raavi felt her heart breaking.

She silently prayed that the tears wouldn’t come. Dhara asked her to sit on the sofa and brought some coffee for her. Raavi wondered if she should share her feelings with Dhara. She could make Shiva talk to her. Shiva would never say no to Dhara. But she’d have to tell Dhara about their so called wedding. It was just wrong.

“Raavi tu thik hai na?” Dhara asked.

“Haa Dhara di.” Raavi said.

“Thodi upset lag rahi hai.”

“Nahi kuch nahi hua.” Raavi said. “Bas woh exams aane wale hai. Usi ki tension.”

“Raavi main tere se Dev ke baare mein baat karne chahti hu. Dekh, maine aur Gaumbi ne soch rakha hai ki tere exams khatam hote hi hum Dev aur tere rishte ke baare mein maami se baat karne jayenge. Isse pehle mujhe tum dono ki sehmati chahiye. Pata hai tu Dev se pyaar karti hai par phir bhi ek baar tujhse puchna chahti hu. Iske baat main Dev se bhi puchungi.”

Raavi eyes shifted to Shiva who just came out of Suman’s room. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw his hurt expression. His hands had curled into fists and his eyes showed his anger. He glared at Raavi for a second and then walked away. Raavi looked at Dhara who was eagerly waiting for an answer. But right now her mind was fixed on Shiva. She would hurt him more if she said yes, but she didn’t know what to do. Dev was her life partner so why was she concerned about Shiva? Why did he have to be so hurt?

“Dhara di, iss baare mein baad mein baat kare? Exams ke baad.”

Dhara looked confused because it was always Raavi who couldn’t shut up about Shiva. Raavi was confused why she couldn’t say yes straight away. She loved Dev and it was her dream to become his wife. This bhootnath ruined everything. It was all his fault anyway. Who asked him to fill her hairline with blood? It was all his plan. He was successful in planting doubts in her heart. Raavi was angry for falling into his trap so easily.

She got up, huffing in anger and went to find Shiva lying on his cot. She grabbed him by his collar and pulled him up. Then she led him to the store room. Shiva looked mad, but he didn’t say anything. Raavi closed the door and grabbed his collar again.

“Tujhe jaanke bohot khushi hogi ki main Dhara di ko haa nahi bol payi. Tera plan toh successful ho gaya na? Par Shiva mujhe tera plan samajh aa gaya hai. Aur main Dev se shaadi karke rahungi. Tu yeh nahi tod payega.” Raavi screamed.

“Maine mana kiya tujhe Dhara ko haa kehne ke liye? Tu nahi boli woh mera fault kaise hua?”

“Shiva yeh mind games mere saath mat khel. Yeh shaadi, aur pati ka haq jatana tune sirf isliye kiya tha taki meri Dev se shaadi na ho. Tujhe main bilkul pasand nahi hu na? Itni kya problem hongi agar main Dev se shaadi kar lungj toh?”

Shiva rolled his eyes and was about to leave when Raavi grabbed his hand and pinned him against the wall angrily. Then she started sobbing.

“Aisa kyu kiya Shiva? Main pyaar karti hu Dev se. Bachpan se bas usi se shaadi karne ka sapna dekha hai maine. Pandya parivaar ki bahu banne ka sapna. Yeh sab karne ki kya zaroorat thi? Meri jaan hi le leta.”

“Raavi bakwaas bandh kar. Mujhe jaane de.”

“Nahi. Kahi nahi jayega tu. Main tujhe achhe se samjha deti hu ki main Dev se pyaar karti hu aur sirf usiko pati maanungi. Tera stupid sa plan kabhi kamyab nahi hoga aur apne aap ko mera pati bolna bandh kar de kyuki tu mera pati nahi hai.”

Shiva suddenly grabbed her shoulders and flipped their position. He pushed her against the wall. “Bas, bohot bol li tu. Pehli baat, yeh baar baar mere saamne Dev ka naam mat le. Bhai hain woh mera. Nafrat karne laga hu khud ke bhai se. Aur yeh kya ‘main Dev se pyaar karti hu’ laga rakha hai? Use bol jaake. Mujhe mat suna. Tujhe tera Dev mubarak. Usse shaadi karni hain toh kar. Aur tu mujhe pati maan na maan, mujhe koi farak nahi padhta. Shaadi nahi maanti tu, toh bas maine bhi tod di shaadi.”

Raavi was shocked. She realised she was close to tears at this point. Shiva had spoken to her rudely since their very childhood, but this was something else. It felt as if he were breaking all ties with her. Tears started flowing and she cried. Shiva turned to leave, but Raavi grabbed his hand. She wasn’t done yet.

“Shiva, tujhe koi haq nahi hai yeh sab bolne ka. Sari gadbad tune ki thi meri maang mein khoon bharke. Aur natak mat kar. Yeh sab tune sirf meri aur Dev ki shaadi rokne ke liye kiya tha. Tu bhi iss shaadi ko nahi maanta. Mujhse nafrat karta hai isiliye tujhe meri feelings ki koi parwa nahi. Tujhe mazak lagta hoga par yeh koi mazak nahi hain. Tujhe shaadi ka matlab bhi pata hai?”

Shiva pulled her closer till there was no space between the both of them. “Tu apni baat kar. Mujhe shaadi ka matlab bohot achhe se pata hai. Haa shaadi ki thi kyuki teri Dev se shaadi rokni thi. Par sirf isiliye kyuki tujhe Dev ke saath dekh nahi sakta. Tu sirf meri thi Raavi. Galti meri thi main maanta hu. Tu toh Dev se pyaar karti hai na? Toh jaa, karle usse shaadi. Main nahi rokunga. Tera mera sab kuch khatam. Par yeh expectation mat rakhna ki bhabhi maan lunga tujhe. Nahi hoga mujhse. Tum dono ko ek saath nahi dekh paunga. Isiliye aaj se na tu mujhe apni shakal dikhayegi aur na main tujhe apni shakal dikhaunga. Family ke saamne bas normal hone ki acting karenge.”

Shiva stormed off angrily leaving Raavi frozen to the spot. She couldn’t bear this. It was all too much. She rushed out of Pandya house crying.
