2 States - what a sweet film!

So, I finally finally watched 2 States and I loved the movie. The source material is mediocre, I know because I've read it, but the film turned out to be unexpectedly good. It was like a breath of fresh air. It was intensely absorbing, and I was captivated by the romance between these two diametrically opposite cultures. Though full of cliches, there was something so endearing about the movie.

Alia was engaging and spirited, she was intensely likeable. Arjun Kapoor was meh, but STILL better back then than his last few outings. The music was upbeat and melodious. I fell in love with the song 'Mast Magan'.

However, the surprise package of the film was Amrita Singh as the loud, full-on Punjabi mother of Arjun Kapoor's character. She slayed, and how! Revathy was the perfect foil to her, she also killed it.Ronit Roy as the alcoholic dad has a pivotal role was extremely convincing.

The cinematography was smooth and riveting, and some scenes went straight to your heart like the dad-son bonding scene, the final wedding scene and even the scene where they first discovered they loved each other.

I don't know why this movie is not considered "up there" but it's definitely a movie which will leave you with a cheesy smile on your face, and a lingering warmth in the heart.

I watched it and found it over rated. It was kinda slow and just overall bland. Boring for me

Maroon, that's what people told me that it was bland and forgettable, that's why I put off watching it for so many years. But when I finally saw it last night, I loved it. It has all the cliches - but somehow, the film makes the cliches work, somehow.

And the music - what can I say?

The songs are really good, peppy, upbeat and really catchy!

Shankar-ehsaan-loy have really outdone themselves with the music this time.

Yeah the music was good. The performances are adequate I suppose. But I just found it boring. Other than some lines by Amrita Singh 😆

I thought it was a nice movie. We barely have romcoms anymore.

I remember the entire theatre going silent when Arjun slapped Ronit Roy. Glad it touched on the subject of parent-child relationships. Arjun slapping him was not the answer probably but Im sure seeing your mother get hit all the time is a different kind of trauma on a child. Paying the fees alone does not make a father.

The ending monologue was nice too. Maybe one day when we step into their shoes we'll understand..

Yeah exactly. I can't remember the last time I watched a decent romcom.

I liked it when I watched it. But I didn't think it was so good that it was worth re-visiting.

Really nice movie. Music was great too. Mast Magan is my favourite.
