I just finished watching today's episode and I have a lot to say. Today's episode wasn't very special by any stretch of imagination but I did feel that today we did get to see the characters beyond what we're told they are and what their character sketches are. I know this sounds confusing but what I mean is- the screenplay and narrative have always told us that Virat is selfless and loving, Pakhi is annoying and selfish (LOL) but what I saw about Pakhi was more than just annoying Pakhi. Virat-Pakhi's unrelatable love story and all that has been discussed to death on this forum but today I saw Pakhi as Pakhi and not Pakhi as the third wheel in SaiRat's love story.
Like any other person, she has her insecurities. One scene was particularly telling- when she told Virat to go be with Sai and when she asked him why he didn't accept her. There's nothing she doesn't know. Virat has made as clear as he possibly could that this marriage is a deal, Sai is nothing but a responsibility to him but she still prodded because she WANTED to hear that Sai means nothing to Virat. We've spoken about Sai and Virat's constant farz/samjhauta jap and how we think it's a way for them to keep reminding themselves the purpose of this marriage and to not get overwhelmed by it. Pakhi did the same today. She knows it all but she wants Virat to reiterate it because her insecurities are overwhelming her. Even when Virat said he wanted to tell her something important, there was this hope which lit up in her eyes. She still believes that things will work out between her and Virat despite being dejected and telling Neha that she'll never forgive him.
Let me just put it out here that this is NOT defending Pakhi. I am just appreciating the writers for giving all the characters layers. ITV shows have this habit of making characters one-note but I am glad GHKPM has not gone down that path as far as our three leads are concerned.
Usually, we all see Pakhi as the girl who's going to be a troublemaker for our favourite couple SaiRat but today's episode viewed her from a non-SaiRat lens. She was just any other normal human being with her own insecurities and needing constant reaffirmations.
