What differentiates a superstar from a star?

Is it:

-- mass appeal/ mass hysteria

-- box-office pull

--- endorsements

--social media followers

--- a combination of the above?

To my mind, both need charisma and mass connect. But a star could bomb and open badly if the film is bad.

A superstar's face will ensure you a bumper opening and cost recoveries despite the shitty content.

Baaki brands/social media followers- everyone has them, from Parineeti to DP to Sonam, so not such a marker. Plus, latter can be bought.

Superstar would most likely have more mass than a star
