Amrita Rao has been in the news for a while now, she has been doing her bit in easing the pain of those that are in need amidst the pandemic. The actress had also forgone the rents of her tenants because of the lockdown.

In an exclusive interaction with us, Amrita opened up about the after-effects of the lockdown, mental health and how Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise made it apparent to the citizens of this country that, some show of restraint was necessary.

Speaking about Sushant and how his death has sparked the debate about mental health and well being Amrita tells us, “It has been exactly a month since Sushant passed away. It is so difficult to even say it. Whether you call it nepotism or favouritism or hypocrisy or whatever, if we want to really give a higher purpose to this issue, we must know what is the root cause. We're talking about all of these leading to mental health issues which can lead to other drastic things like, low self-esteem, suicide, depression, losing confidence and feeling like a loser. If mental health is the issue here, let us as humanity not just target one industry, because this is true everywhere. If we take a holistic view, it is also true that today, when people are targeting the film industry and a few directors and actors, tomorrow, people might target the media or an untoward incident like that. I think this exists in layers everywhere.”

She further went on to shed light on how some media outlets turn to sensationalism to make their content palatable which in turn mentally affects those who are being written about. She says, “There are also some media outlets who succumb to the pressures of timelines, pressures of sensationalising. Media then tends to write things, make personal comments. That can also affect an artist who is in a very precarious profession.”

The actress set an example for all by foregoing the rent of her tenants during these trying times also spoke about the non-payment of dues and that too is affecting the mental health of those not getting their payments in time. “As humans, we must be sensitive to issues like not paying people. It is a huge issue, this isn’t just about the TV industry, it is a huge issue all over the world. People are denied their payments, people are cheated on, MeToo, all of these lead to mental health issues and therefore on an overall humanitarian level, everyone should be a little more awakened towards this.”

"It is very unfortunate but people have become so trivially judgmental about human beings and each other," she concluded.

Bolna kya chahti hai ye?

Is she saying people are right in voicing out their ire against nepotism and favoritism and they should do the same for other industries too? If yes, then I agree. This is a problem that exists in every industry. More visible in Bollywood coz of they are in the limelight. But social media trials and abuses are not the way to go about this. Kuch hoga nahi, jisko gaali doge wo bechare lagenge baad me.
