Of course it will show to some extent no matter how much you try to control it. Like Aish's character in Devdas knew she would get into trouble for running to Devdas while he was dying she still did. Love is love. Thank God her husband was sophisticated enough not to beat her. Although he might have punished her otherwise. Nor did she have anyone who would prey her sexually.

😆 I know she had no idea BUT I knew and hence the physical pain of watching her downfall was unbearable for me.

It was just REALLY uncomfortable when I knew as a viewer that Thakur was starting to view their relationship suspiciously. Prior to Binodhni planting seeds into his mind, I’m sure Thakur viewed their relationship as a close-knitted childhood bond filled with childlike fondness. It was after Binodhni poisoned his thoughts that he began to interpret all of Bulbul’s actions differently.

As a viewer who was aware of his train of thoughts, it was torturous watching Bulbul’s expressions filled with pinning and sorrow because I was so scared of the outcome! I didn’t want her to get caught out or have anything used against her (whether it was her tears for him, the stuttering uneasiness when talking about his marriage, or her sorrow at his departure). I was anxious that absolutely anything can be trialled against her so I was extremely sensitive to every action and expression 😆. I pretty much died and had my soul emerge from a heart spasm when Bulbul ran down the stairs upon hearing Thakur came back and she was frantically looking around for Satya. I fast forwarded the scene because my stomach hurt.

That stuff made me very sad too. It also made me feel like girls who went through child marriage must've felt so terrible being married to older men when they would've liked guys of their own age and would have to suppress their feelings because they can never be with those guys. And if the child marriage never happened then Bulbul would've probably been in a relationship with Satya like a girl who's free to explore her romantic life. It makes sense in a way that they named her after a bird (as Bulbul is the name of a bird) because she was caged and couldn't be with the one she loves :(

If girls who some freedom to explore their romantic life remain confused and conflicted. God knows what Bullbul must have done through to have the complete opposite of freedom - entrapment!

Also a lot of critics mentioned Satya’s character was undeveloped to some extent. The audience could understand every emotion of Bulbul if the watched carefully enough. It was hard to tell what he was thinking or feeling .

Was pursuing law his dream or also something he did for his family? All we know really is he kept refusing to get married to someone else .

I am still reading through all the posts and I conclude that this indeed was a very complex relationship. One thing for sure is that I don't like Satya as much now. He's just your typical aadarsh indian momma's boy 😆

Bulbbul and Satya really reminded me of Rabindranath Tagore and his sister in law Kadambini devi. The girl married off in early age found a companion in the same age devar and couldnt relate to the much older but supposedly tender cultured husband. Both the husbands having weird relationship with their sister in law las Jyotirindranath and Gyanodanandini were rumoured to hv an affair too. Neither Satya Bulbbul or Rabindrantah n Kadambini None of them ever acted on those feelings in all probability. Rabindranath got married while Satya did'nt.Kadambini devi commited suicide while Bulbbul became devi❤️

Relationships were very complex that time and beyond our understanding at times now. As society was full of oppressive practices towards women most suffered n harboured feelings that noone knew of.

He wrote letters but he didn’t get a response and obviously Thakur didn’t allow any message to get through to Bulbbul. Let’s not forget, we knew more than he did. Satya was ignorant and a patriarch without realising, that’s what the character was there for. I wouldn’t call him an asshole though.

Satya was unknowingly misogynistic, like his intentions/heart was in the right place but he was unfortunately conditioned by the society around him to be that way, thats why he left that city/place. Our surroundings forms our mindset a lot. Like Satya thought a woman can't kill the men and immediately thought it must be a guy and Bulbul says "aurat bhi toh ho sakti hai", he had this preconceived notions about women and lacked nuance.
