Why
She was running. She was scared. She didn't know when she entered there.
It was midnight. The moon was shining. But there were many trees. Some places were quite dark. There she met him. She had heard a lot about him, but never met him. "Yes, it's him", she thought.
Suddenly she felt even more scared.
"May I ask you for something?", she asked hesitantly. "Why not?", said he. She stammered "Actually,.....I.....have heard....that it's not right....to ask you for....anything."
He grinned. The moonlight fell on his face. She looked at him wonderstruck. It reminded her of lightning piercing dark clouds. For a moment she forgot what was scaring her.
The smile, it contained a sense of familiarity. He knew her, her quirks all too well. She could not remember meeting him before, yet felt welcome, felt familiar.
Before she could say a word, she began to tremble in fear. All this while, she was running in fear. She could not feel the full extent of fear then. Now with him beside her, the fear threatened to consume her. She clung to him in fear.
The warmth of his touch made her cry. So many questions, so much anger made her speechless.
He sat down there on dust, took her head on his lap and began to caress her forehead. The tears from her nose was making his cloth dirty. Slowly she fell asleep.
In the morning, she woke up in his lap. His hands were swollen with insect bites. Yet no insect had touched her. She looked at him with moist eyes, as if wanting to ask "Why did you tolerate so much?"
He looked straight at her eyes. His mesmerizing eyes were mesmerized. He began playing with a strand of her hair and whispered "Because you matter to me.".
