Heh? Shouldn't it be other way around? The person is not talking about quality of movie in cinematic terms. If gay community feels accepted by this movie in a way arthouse cinema didn't make them feel, it's definitely a success in those terms.
Like it or not, Ayushman succeeded where the more mainstream peeps failed.
Back in the mid to late 90s Hollywood did Birdcage and In And Out. Both very funny well made movies and I believe both became big hits at the time. So Bollywood isn’t doing what Hollywood couldn’t. Bollywood is finally catching up, and it’s 2020.
That's only if people pay money to watch it. Are there enough woke people to watch a gay movie in India? We'll have to see.
