Part 2
Rishabh and Prerna reached Kukki’s school right when the school bell rang, they walked hand in hand towards her class room. Kukki got really happy seeing both her parents and rushed towards them. Rishabh bent to his knees and hugged Kukki. He picked her up in his arms and she leaned towards Prerna. She kissed Prerna on her cheek and Prerna did the same.
‘Not fair Kukki, papa ko kissi nahi di na aapne!? Aap sirf Mamma se pyaar karte hai na abh...’ Rishabh pouted and acted hurt that Kukki forgot him. She quickly kissed him too, he smiled at her and kissed her back. They walked towards the car and Prerna sat in the back seat with Kukki, she asked Kukki to keep her head in her lap and she started patting her head softly. Rishabh was glancing at them from the rear view mirror once in a while.
‘Kukki main aur aapke papa soch rahe the ki aap ghar pe akele chote baby ho na, aap kabhi kabhi bore ho jate honge, aapke saath khelne ke liye koi nahi hai aapke age ka ya aapse chotu, toh kyun hum aapke liye ek chotu friend le aaye! Jo hamesha aapke saath rehe....’
Kukki looked up at Prerna with questioning eyes, she sat up, both Prerna and Rishabh got a little nervous waiting for Kukki’s reply. But she didn’t give any reaction to Prerna’s words.
‘ Kya hua? Aapko ek chotu friend nahi chahiye?’ Prerna asked a little scared for the reply
Kukki thought for a few moments and then she finally smiled and nodded her head excitedly. Both Prerna and Rishabh let out a huge sigh. Kukki scared them for a minute, they thought that she would deny it. She was not comfortable with mingling with new people and they knew it well. The thought about being friends with someone did scare Kukki at first because she was usually anxious to meet new people, even her classmates used to tease her and make fun of her for not speaking at all. But she was really excited to meet this new friend of her’s.
In her sign language Kukki asked Prerna when would her new friend come home
‘Umm... usse aane main thoda time lag sakta hai... thode mahine Shayaad!!’
Kukki then asked her where was her new friend right now. Prerna was stumped by her question. Answering this might be difficult. She thought for a few seconds and also looked at Rishabh through the mirror asking for his help. But he just shrugged at her, Prerna looked at Kukki who was still waiting for her reply.
‘ Vo filhal yahan nahi hai, but aapko agar usse baat karni hai ya usse kuch bolna hai toh aap mujhe bata do main usse bol dungi... ‘
She looked at Kukki who looked a little dejected now. She felt bad for Kukki, but before she could say anything else, they reached home, Kukki got off the car and started walking towards the house a little sadly. Rishabh and Prerna were feeling bad looking at her. Rishabh called her out and took her in his arms again, they walked towards the garden area. He sat on the bench with Kukki in his lap and asked Prerna to stand in front of them, taking her hand in his, Rishabh placed their hands on Prerna’s belly
‘ Aap apne new friend se baat nahi kar sakti toh kya hua, lekin aap unhe feel kar sakte ho!! Kuch din pehle Bappa humare ghar aaye the na, toh unhone na magic se aapke friend ko yahan aapke Mamma ke tummy main chupa diya hai, aapka friend bhi aapke tarah hi shy hai issliye usse hume special feel karvana hai taki vo jaldi se humare saath comfortable ho jaye aur humare paas aa jaye!! Phir aap pura din usske saath khel sakte ho!!’
Kukki got really excited listening to this and clapped her hands. Prerna was really surprised at the way Rishabh had handled Kukki right now. He smiled at her and gave her a slight nod. Kukki hugged Prerna and planted a kiss on her belly. She signalled Prerna to bend a little and placed a kiss on her cheek too. Prerna kissed her back. They sat in the garden for another minute or two. Rishabh looked at Kukki and said
‘ Kukki now I want you to listen something very carefully, abh se aap Mamma ke godh main jane ki zid nahi karoge aur aap unhe zyada tang bhi nahi karoge, kyunki agar Mamma ko problem hogi toh aapke chotu friend ko bhi problem ho sakti hai. Okay!!’
Kukki nodded at him like an obedient student, Rishabh felt proud of his daughter. She was really smart. Rishabh took her in his arms and they started walking towards the house.
‘Mr. Bajaj aap Kukki ko leke uske room main jaye, main uske liye doodh leke aati hun’ Prerna said and was about to go towards the kitchen when Rishabh stopped her.
‘Prerna I don’t think aapko Kukki ke liye doodh lana chahiye, aapko yaad nahi subah aapko nauseous feel ho raha tha uske smell se’
Prerna recalled the incident and nodded. She was surprised that Rishabh had noticed it, but she assured him that she’ll be fine, she’ll add some chocolate powder to it first to make sure she doesn’t feel nauseous this time. Rishabh was a little unsure but he gave in, he knew Prerna and Kukki loved spending time with each other.
After having some hot chocolate and spending some quality time with her parents Kukki had dozed off. Prerna and Rishabh tucked her in bed and went back to their room. Prerna sat on the bed and sighed. She felt tired all of sudden. Rishabh noticed this and said
‘Prerna I think even you should rest for a while. You must be tired too!!’ Prerna nodded at him and laid on the bed. In a few minutes she was asleep too. Making sure that she was sleeping, Rishabh sat next to her, he looked at her sleeping peacefully. He placed hesitantly placed his hand on her tummy trying to be careful of not waking her up. And started talking in a low, soft voice
‘Hey there little one, aapne toh aapke aane ke news se hi sab theek kar diya.. aapki mamma na mujhse thodi si naraz thi, but galti unki nahi thi. Maine hi unhe anjane main hurt kar diya tha! But now I promise you, that I’ll never hurt your Mum again and also, I won’t let anything happen to you as well. Aapko pata hai aapki jo badi behan hai na, Kukki di, she is also very excited to meet you. Vo kisi se baat nahi karti filhal, vo bohut shy hain, but appki Mamma aur main puri koshish kar rahe hain ki jaldi unhe hum baat karne ke liye encourage kar paye... ‘
He smiled to himself and continued ‘ and you know what, I am sure ki aap bhi humari help kar sakte hain, jab aapke aane ke news se hi aapki Mumma aur mere beech ki sari misunderstandings door ho gai toh I am sure ki aap Humari life main issi tarah dher sari aur happiness leke aayenge. We love you and we are waiting for you to come in our lives, eagerly!!’
He sat there for another minute and taking a deep breathe he went towards the washroom to freshen up, while Rishabh was speaking his heart out he failed to notice that Prerna had been awake all this while. He did try to be very careful but Prerna being a light sleeper had woken up the minute he placed his hand on her belly, she just didn’t react when he had started talking. She tried to keep her breathing normal so that he wouldn’t get distracted.
Once she heard the washroom door shut, she sat in the bed. She felt emotional, happy and guilty at the same time. She had misunderstood Rishabh to such an extent, his words from earlier came back to her and even know whatever he had spoken to their baby, made her more emotional. She felt lucky to have such an understanding husband, she knew that he would keep his word and always be there for them. She also knew that he would never let any harm come to their way. She now understood him for real. Prerna came out of her chain of thoughts when she again felt the urge to vomit. She rushed towards the washroom and realised that it was locked. She remembered that Rishabh went in just a few minutes ago but she couldn’t hold herself for longer. With one hand on her mouth she started banging the door rigorously with the other hand.
After a minute or so, Rishabh unlatched the door and Prerna rushed inside, towards the sink. Rishabh came behind her and used his one hand to rub her back while he used the other one for keeping her hair back so that she could at least vomit peacefully. After five minutes or so Prerna stopped puking ,she splashed some water on her face and started wiping it.
As soon as she kept the mini towel aside and looked up in the mirror she realised that Rishabh was standing behind her, without his Shirt on!! She looked at his reflection in the mirror and was kind of checking him out !! Her eyes popped out when she saw his perfect abs. She didn’t know that he was that fit and even had the perfect six pack abs!! Her mouth was agape.
While Prerna was in a shock to discover about her husbands hot physique, Rishabh was worried for her. He frowned at her and called her out
‘Prerna, are you okay??!’
‘Huh!!’
Prerna came out of her trance and felt embarrassed. ‘Haan .... vo main....’ she stammered and looked down ‘ ... vo mujhe nahi pata tha aap itne fit hain....’ she said while blushing.
Rishabh was surprised at this sudden compliment from her. He realised that she was blushing. It was the first time he had ever seen her blush, he smirked at her and slowly came closer to her. His closeness had suddenly increased Prerna’s heartbeats. She closed her eyes and tried to calm herself down when Rishabh came near her ear.
‘Thank you for the compliment, Mrs. Bajaj’ he whispered in her ear, in a low, husky voice!
Prerna blushed harder and quickly ran out of the washroom, Rishabh ran his hand through his hair, he looked at himself in the mirror and realised that he was grinning like a fool. He felt like a teenager who had fallen madly in love. He quickly grabbed his T-shirt from the hook and wearing it he walked to the dinning area for dinner.
As soon as he came down, he saw Prerna already sitting there with Kukki, having their dinner with the others. Prerna looked at him and noticed that he was wearing a normal t-shirt and a track suit, it was probably for the first time today she had seen him in such casual dress code. She smiled at him and even blushed a little as she recalled their encounter in the washroom a few minutes ago.
Rishabh sat in his chair and looked around, everyone was eating their food calmly, except for Anurag, he still seemed distracted and a little disturbed too. He took a deep breathe and tried to ignore him. He suddenly noticed that Prerna was only feeding Kukki and she wasn’t eating herself.
‘ Prerna, why aren’t you eating anything??’
‘Vo Mr. Bajaj mujhe inn main se kuch bhi khane ka Mann nahi kar...’
She said innocently with a pout, she knew that Rishabh would be mad at her for not eating but she really didn’t feel like eating anything from the dishes in front of her. Rishabh rubbed his forehead to calm himself down. He took a breath and spoke
‘Toh aapko kya khane ka Mann kar raha hai?’
Chandu was about to serve food to him but he stopped him. He wanted to make sure that Prerna would eat something first.
Prerna continued feeding Kukki and also thought what she wanted to eat. While she was thinking she unknowingly made adorable faces and Rishabh smiled looking at her. The two of them were oblivious to the others, right now, they were in the own world.
‘Ummm, mujhe na kuch chatapata kahne ka Mann kar raha hai, chaat ya kuch...’ Prerna said excitedly. Rishabh gave her a confused look
‘Prerna iss time chaat kon khata hai??’
‘Mujhe kahana hai Mr. Bajaj.... aapne hi pucha na mujhe kya kahan hai... toh mujhe chaat khana hai....’ Prerna said
‘ Yes Prerna, Maine hi aapse pucha tha aap kya khana chahte ho, but you should eat something healthy. Chaat, that’s not healthy Prerna.’ He tried to reason out with her but noticed that she looked a little upset.
‘Okay fine!! Phir aap hi chandu se keh ke kuch aur banva dijiye mere liye.’
She quietly continued feeding Kukki. Rishabh felt bad for having spoilt her mood, he asked Chandu to prepare something healthy for Prerna. She was still sulking, he caught her hand that was placed on the table and squeezed it, making her look at him.
‘Prerna I know you are sulking because I am not letting you eat chaat, but think about the baby na Jaan.... you have to eat and stay healthy!!!’
He hoped that Prerna would understand his point of view but she just Hummed. He looked up and noticed that everyone else had stopped eating at once and were staring at the two of them, it was the first time ever they had seen them at such ease, usually there was some drama or the other happening in the house. Even today, Prerna’s pregnancy news and then witnessing them share a kiss, had some similar impact, everybody was still trying to recover from that shock but seemed like Rishabh and Prerna had decided to keep on giving them shocks.
Rishabh frowned at them ‘What?? I am just talking to my wife!!’ He replied casually.
‘Vo kya hai na Rishabh aaj pehli baar tum dono ko iss tarah se pyaar se ek dusre se baat karte hue dekh rahe hain na... toh bas... aur waise tumhe Abh addat dalni padegi beta. Prerna ki craving aage jake aur badhengi tab tum usse itni asani se mana nahi paoge...’ masi said sweetly, Rishabh nodded and gave her a smile, the rest of them resumed their dinner, meanwhile Chandu had come back with some salad and sprouts for Prerna.
She made a face looking at them and then she looked at Rishabh. She didn’t want to eat this at all. But Rishabh gave her a stern look and she started eating it!! He felt a little peaceful that she was at least eating. He served some food for himself and finished his dinner. When they were almost done, Kukki signalled Rishabh that she wanted to have an ice cream. Prerna looked up as happy as Kukki at the mention of ice cream. Rishabh realised that she wanted some too. He asked Chandu to go and get some ice cream for everyone, including the Basus, it surprised them all.
‘Well, aaj itni acchi news mili hai, sab ka muh meetha Karna toh banta hai na!!’ He replied, he did expect that he won’t get a reaction from any one, he looked at Prerna and saw her look dejected because of their reactions. She caught Anurag’s eye, he looked at Prerna and gave her a weak smile. Prerna returned his smile, Rishabh noticed this but didn’t react. He knew he had nothing to worry about. Anurag however had left the table before Chandu could come back and so did the rest of the Basu family.. Chandu came with the ice cream and served it to the rest of them, they ate it silently, except Prerna and Kukki who were throughly enjoying their treat, Rishabh looked at them and smiled.
Soon they all retreated to their rooms and called it a night, everyone in the house was fast asleep expect for three people, Anurag had a hard time falling asleep recalling the days events, while Prerna and Rishabh were not able to sleep because they still had a lot to talk about to each other. In the past few hours, their lives had changed and it was going to change further, for the good, but they still had to move on completely from the past to enjoy their present and the future that was ahead of them!
