A man was gagged and tied to a chair. The dark room of the under-construction building was lit by only 3 light bulbs. Another man was tensely pacing up and down. An envelope rested on a blue barrel near him. The tied up man was terrified.

Every movement made by the other was creeping up his spine. He should never have accepted that blasted offer. His life was more important than 15,000. Unfortunately for him, it was too late to think straight. God alone knew what that man was going to do to him no…not just any man but ETF officer, ACP Arjun Suryakant Rawte.

The ETF had turned up at his hotel a week ago when a certain businessman had been murdered in his room.They had stayed in for 3 days before finally being able to catch the criminal and put him behind bars. And he? He was but a normal waiter who had nothing to do with any of it. However, he was guilty of another crime. A crime which had landed him up in the clutches of one of the most fierce officers of the entire department.

A feminine voice called out: Arjun!!....Arjun kaha hai aap?

Arjun: Riya!!(muttering) finally!

Recognising the source of the voice she walked to the direction. Arjun heaved a sigh of relief. Riya entered in confused at why he had called her there which turned to shock seeing the man tied up.

Riya: Arjun aapne mujhe yaha kyun bulaya aur ye admi kaun hai? aapne ise baandh kar kyun rakha hai…kya haalat bana kar rakhi hai iski, what the hell is going on?

Arjun: Riya sirf sawaal karti rahogi ya fir jawaab bhi sunogi? Kab se wait kar raha hun, ab aa rahi ho?

Riya stepped back: sorry….but baat kya hai? aapke chehra ka rang kyun ud gaya hai?

Arjun sighed. He picked up the envelope and handed it to her.

Riya: isme kya hai?

Arjun: khol kar dekho pata chal jaayega

Riya: Arjun daraiye mat mujhe, bataiye na kya hai?

Arjun: khol kar dekh lo Riya

Riya rolled her eyes and opened it. She upturned it and a bunch of photographs fell into her hand. They were of Arjun in the hotel room. Her eyebrows furrowed. She changed the photos putting one behind the other when suddenly the ground beneath her feet swept away. Her eyes widened in shock. She hurried through the next. Atleast 10 photos were similar in nature.

They were on the bed,covered in nothing but sheets, drowning in their love.

Arjun: paani du?

His voice shook her out of trance: ye…ye photo….photographs kaha se aayi?

Arjun gestured to the man: isne mere kamre mein camera lagaya tha (Riya was still too shocked to respond) ye envelope aaj mere ghar par bheja tha

Riya felt her head spinning: iska…iska matlab ki aapke…aapke biwi aur parents…ko pata…ko pata chal gaya ki….humara affair hai?

Arjun hung his head: nahi, Roshni baahar gayi hui thi but mummy papa ne dekh liya. sabse pehle maa ke hi haath laga

Riya (tensed): par unhe toh pata chal gaya na? Roshni ko pata lagne mein kitni der lagegi?

Arjun: Riya relax maine unhe kahani suna di

Riya(hyper): Iske Liye Kya Kahaani Sunai Aapne? We Are On The Damn Bed!!

Arjun: maine unse kaha ki purana affair hai, shaadi ke pehle ka

Riya(incredulously): Shaadi Ke Pehle Ke Affair Ke Baare Mein Aapko Koi Shaadi Ke Chaar Saal Baad Photos Kyun Bhejega? THAT DOESN’T EVEN MAKE SENSE!!!

Arjun: woh maan gaye Riya

Riya(shocked): maan gaye? Kaise maan gaye?

Arjun: drama kiya aur kya?

Riya: woh pakka maan gaye?

Arjun: ha Riya, thode naraaz hue par maan gaye

Riya: lekin ab woh Roshni ko bhi toh bata denge

Arjun: aisa kabhi nahi hoga woh kabhi bhi apni pyaari si bahu ka dil nahi todenge, bharosa rakho

Riya sighed deeply and rubbed her temple: mere toh kuch samaj mein nahi aa raha hai…ye..ye photos, sirf aapke kamre ki hai iska matlab koi aap par nazar rakh raha hai

Arjun: ha, jab maine photos dekhi toh mujhe bhi yahi laga. Andar waale ke ilawa ye kaam kiya hi nahi jaa sakta. Isliye main seedhe hotel gaya aur saare employees ko line mein lagaya. Humari photos chodkar baakhi ki manager ko dikha kar uski gardan pakdi toh ye dar ke maare bhaag gaya. woh hotel ki aur badnaami nahi chahta tha toh chup-chap ise saunp diya bina koi halla machaye

Riya nodded as she slowly came back to her senses.

Riya: par isme iska kya faayda?

Arjun: paise (Riya looked up) ise kisine khat likh kar bheja tha

Riya: aapne woh khat…

Arjun: jis par ye bhi likha tha ki padhne ke baad is jala de

Riya died down again:and let me guess usne exactly wahi kiya

Arjun: ha, usne wahi kiya, use kaha gaya tha ki mere kamre mein camera laga kar mujh par nazar rakhna hai aur unhe mere ghar par bhejna hai

Riya: iska matlab kisiko shak hai! ki humara affair chal raha hai?

Arjun: nahi Riya, agar aisa hota toh hum dono ke kamro mein camera lagwata aur hum dono ka peecha kar raha hota but aisa nahi hua

Riya: aisa bhi toh hosakta hai ki use pata na ho ki aapka chakkar kiske saath chal raha hai?

Arjun: lekin Riya motive kya hai? mere affair ki khabar mere ghar tak pahuncha kar kisi ko kya milega? Faayda sirf ek surat mein uthaya jaa sakta tha, woh photographs jo usne mere ghar bheje use apne paas rakhkar, hume blackmail karne ka par aisa kuch nahi hua aur sabse zaroori baat, is waiter se ye nahi kaha gaya tha ki mujhe kisi ladki ke saath dekho sirf ye bataya gaya tha ki mujhe dekho aur shak karega bhi kaun? Mummy-papa aur Roshni ke ilawa aur kaun hai? kisi had tak Sam ko bhi le liya but woh toh khud 24 mein se 12 ghante office mein saath hota hai

Riya sighed: aap sahi keh rahe hai but are you sure? Aapke parents?

Arjun: nahi Riya, unke shakal ke expressions kaafi the ye jaan ne ke liye ki unhe bas dil ka dohra padna baakhi reh gaya hai apne bete ko aise dekhkar

Riya: and your wife?

Arjun: Not A Chance!

Riya: pakka?

Arjun: 101%

Riya nodded: acha iske paas aur koi copies hai kya?

Arjun nahi sirf ek hi copy hai, koi video nahi koi blueprints nahi (taking the photos from her hand and removing his lighter) inhe bhi bas tumhe dikhane ke liye rakha tha

Saying so he lit the photos on fire destroying all evidence of their illegitimate doings.

Riya: par Arjun aap par kisi ki toh nazar hai

Arjun: I have a guess Riya but the inconsistency…it’s giving me a doubt. Then again maybe he’s just checking up.

Riya understood from his expression who he was talking about.

Riya: waise ye jagah kyun?

Arjun: yaha construction band pada hai. mera khabri yaha ka watchman hai

Riya: oh aur iska kya karna hai?

Arjun: ise abhi yahi rakhte hai, jab tak ye gutthi sulajh nahi jaati tab tak, baakhi baad mein dekhenge

The man started protesting hearing him but only muffles escaped through the gap.

Arjun glared at him: Muh Band Warna Yahi Thok Kar, Yahi Par Gaadh Dunga Fir Murda Ban Kar Pillar Ko Mazbooti Dena!!!

His eyes widened in horror and he shut up immediately. Arjun shook his head in annoyance.

Arjun: chale?

Riya: hmm

Arjun held her by the shoulder as they walked out if the building. Arjun signalled to the watchman and he came running. Removing a few notes from his wallet he handed it to him.

Arjun: ye lo, us admi ke khaane peene ke liye (removing a few more notes) ye tumhara hissa

He smiled: shukriya saab, par uska karna kya hai? mera matlab kitne din tak rakhu use yaha?

Arjun: kitne din lagenge ye mujhe nahi pata Raghu, bas dhyaan rahe ki na woh bhaag paaye aur na hi kisiko is baare mein pata chale agar by chance, yaha par kaam firse shuru honewaala ho toh mujhe batana, agar paise ki zaroorat pade ya fir koi emergency ho toh hi call karna

Raghu: theek hai saab, jaisa aap kahe

Arjun nodded. The couple walked out of the premises to Arjun’s waiting SUV. The lane was mostly secluded other than a random car coming from here and there. Riya got into the passenger seat and Arjun turned the key springing the car to life. He made a U-turn and drove to Riya’s house.

Riya: acha hua ki aaj Sunday tha aur aap ghar par the warna bhukamp aa jaata

Arjun shook his head in annoyance: usse bhi acha ye hua ki Roshni ghar par nahi thi warna duniya ki har prakritik aapda mere ghar mein pahunch jaati

Riya: Arjun mere man mein ek baat abhi bhi khatak rahi hai

Arjun: kya?

Riya: woh photos aapke ghar par bhejne ko kaha tha right?

Arjun: ha toh?

Riya: toh kahi aisa toh nahi ki ye baahar waale ki baat nahi hai, aapke ghar se hi kisi ne aapki jasoosi karne ko kaha ho kisi aur wajah se

Arjun: par kaun karega Riya? Aur kyun? Baat ab bhi wahi hai, teeno mein se koi bhi aisa nahi karega

He glanced at her.Tension was easily readable on her face. He held her hand.

Arjun: tum fikar mat karo Riya, hum iski jad tak bhi pahunch jaayenge, mujhe pura yakeen hai. bharosa karti hona mujh par?

Riya finally smiled: of course

Arjun: bas tum bhi thodi alert rehna, agar kuch ajeeb mehsoos ho toh ignore mat karna mujhe bata dena

Riya: ha

She leaned on his shoulder, earning a kiss on her forehead. Arjun pulled up in the driveway ofher house.

Riya: main chalti hu, kal office mein milenge, bye!

She opened the door but before she could step out, Arjun pulled her into his lap.

Riya(shocked): aap…aap kya kar rahe hai?

Arjun: toh aur kya karu? tum toh office mein milenge bol kar nikal gayi

Riya(confused): toh aur kya kahu?

Arjun: kya kahu? Koi ghar aaya hai toh use andar invite bhi nahi karogi?

Getting his intentions, she raised her eyebrow at him.

Riya: taaki fir se koi photographs kheench le?

Arjun smirked: well, ye tumhara ghar hai, mere hotel ka kamra nahi ki koi bhi aakar kuch bhi kar le. yaha par photos sirf tum kheench sakti ho

Her eyes widened in shock.

Arjun: aur waise bhi usdin shuruwat tumne hi ki thi

Riya immediately turned defensive: maine ki thi ka kya matlab hai? maine sirf ek kiss kiya tha!

Arjun: toh? Aur kaunsi cheez se shuruwat karte hai?

Riya turned completely red and closed her eyes, looking away. She pushed him and tried to leave.

Riya: ugh! You’re such a…Arjun chodiye mujhe…bahot ho gaya

Arjun chuckled as he caught hold of her hand again: are, are ruko toh mazaak kar raha hu yaar

Riya(blushing): nahi, aap bahot pareshaan kar rahe hai mujhe, mujhe nahi sunna

Arjun pulled her to him: Shona suna na

Defeated she turned to him, still avoiding eye contact. Arjun caressed her cheek with the back of his palm.

Arjun: I love you

Riya smiled: I love you too

A wide grin appeared on his face. Riya blushed and got off the car. She turned to him.

Riya: bye, take care

He blinked his eyes in assurance: you too

She nodded and turned to leave. Arjun waited till she got inside and then reversed the car leaving for his own house.

Rawte Mansion-

Arjun parked the car in the enormous lawn and got off. A water fountain was on the opposite side of the pathway. The house was huge and why not? It belonged to the business tycoon Suryakant Rawte. It’s architecture was inspired by a mix of vintage and modernist views. He climbed up the steps of the porch and opened the door with his set of keys.

He stepped on the Italian marble and was walking in the direction of his room upstairs when a cheerful female voice called out to him.

Roshni: Arjun! Kaha the tum…kitna time laga diya? Kam se kam phone toh kar dete, main kabse tumhara wait kar rahi hu

Arjun turned in the direction. His wife and mother were seated on the sofa.

Arjun: kaam mein tha Roshni, field par busy tha

Roshni: tum log bhi na Sunday ke din bhi kaam, main chai lekar aati hu tumhare liye

Arjun: nahi, main...main thak gaya hun, bas sone jaa raha hu, thodi der. Khaane ke waqt utha dena

And before she or his mother could pose any question he left to his room.

Roshni: acha ma, khaane mein kya banaye?

Shweta (Arjun’s mother):kuch socha nahi maine, tum hi bata do tumhe kya khaana hai?

Roshni: are main kya kahu ma? Aap jo bhi kahengi bana lenge

Shweta smiled and shook her head. She could never have asked for a more dutiful daughter-in-law.

Arjun’s room-

He closed the door behind him and threw his car keys on a table before collapsing on the bed. He travelled to the opposite side of the king-sized bed where a family frame of him Roshni and their daughter, Shivangi rested. A smile automatically appeared on his lips. He kissed the photo.

Arjun: I love you!

And went back to his side of the bed, closing his eyes falling into deep slumber………………………...

I feel so bad for Roshni. But why is Arjun involved with Riya? And why is Riya also with him?
