Vicky Kaushal to reunite with Uri: The Surgical Strike director Aditya Dhar for period-war film on Ashwatthama

Updated Apr 16, 2019 | 10:48 IST | Ayush Mohan Dixit

After the huge success of Uri: The Surgical Strike, Aditya Dhar and Ronnie Screwvala are set to collaborate with Vicky Kaushal on a period-war film based on mythological character of Ashwatthama.

Vicky Kaushal to play Ashwatthama in Team Uri's next

It is a known fact that Vicky Kaushal's last release Uri: The Surgical Strike was a massive blockbuster and a gamechanger of sorts for the actor. Directed by Aditya Dhar and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, it went on to become one of the highest grossers of all time in Bollywood. Turns out the director-producer duo are set to collaborate with the Masaan actor once again and this time for a yet-untitled period-war movie.

As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, the trio is set to reunite for the movie based on the mythological character of Ashwatthama, who as per the legend of Mahabharata was the son of Guru Dronacharya and fought on the side of Kauravas against Pandavas in the epic war that took place in Kurukshetra, situated in present-day Haryana.

Vicky Kaushal would be playing the lead role in the movie, which is aiming for a mid-2020 release. "After Uri, the makers wanted to return with something big and interesting. Aditya has been working on this script since a long time, even before Uri released, and when he sounded out Ronnie and Vicky, they immediately jumped on board. The film will be mounted on a big scale and will be shot later this year, a source close to the development informed the tabloid.

Vicky, himself shared the report on his Instagram handle which confirms his new project announcement. "Aditya is already neck-deep in research and will go on a recce soon. The film will be shot all over India and the makers are targetting a mid-2020 release, the source went on to tell Mirror.

On the film front, Vicky Kaushal has Shoojit Sircar's Udham Singh, a biopic on the freedom fighter, in the pipeline. He is also a part of the huge ensemble cast of Karan Johar's next directorial Takht alongside Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Bhumi Pednekar, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor. He would also be seen in Bhanu Pratap Singh's directorial debut, a yet-untitled high-concept horror film opposite Bhumi Pednekar. Stay tuned to zoomtv.com for more updates.

Katrina most likely will bag the project. Aditya Dhar did cast her in his shelved Dharma project Raat Baaki with Fawad. Also all Vicky-Kat content the past couple of months got people talking about them. So their is a hype for their pairing already.
