we have 3 sects in catholic community here in keralaroman catholics (brahmins)malankara catholics (nairs,pillai,menons)latin catholics (ezhavas,dalits,tamil lc)even though catholic church (pope) has allowed us to marry within the 3 sects we still need permission from our respective sect's bishop.It is a huge prestige issue to marry a catholic from another sect.My cousin's bf was a dalit christian and our bishop didn't give her permission so they had non-catholic wedding.
