Kajol rose above these scripts and that's why she much appreciated even when others have done bether characters. She had the career she chose and saying she piggybacked on SRK and KJo is false.  
For one it was following the huge success that was DDLJ that she agreed to do KJo's K2H2 and again she agreed to do K3G because Karan really wanted her in it. 

She and SRK rose to stardom together and that's why they are appreciated individually as well as as a jodi. 
Let's not forget that 1998 was her year and that only one of those movies was made alongside SRK.

One should see her act in Dushman to see how good of an actrress she is. 
She did other movies in which she was much appreciated and in which she played more nuanced characters but those didn't reach cult status.
