This story will begin from when Vishakha took slightly ill. I haven't watched the episodes recently, but since the concept is slightly different, it wouldn't matter.
Part 1
Bobby: Vishakha, mujhe do din ke liye Chandigarh jaana hai ek deal final karni hai. Client London chala jaaye usse pehle personally milna hoga. Mummy ko ek party mein Chattarpur chodke wahi se nikal jaunga. Car aur driver mein le ja raha hoon, agar tumhe kahi jana ho toh Keshav se kehkar taxi bulva lena.
Vishakha comes coughing slightly: Theek hai, mein aapka saaman pack kar deti hoon.
Bobby hears her coughing: Kya hua Vishakha, tum khans kyon rahi ho? Tumhari tabiyat toh theek hai na! and he places his hand on her forehead to check. Arre tumhe toh bukhar hai. Now worry evident in his voice, Tumhe aaram karna chahiye. Pehle kyon nahi bataya? Mein jaana cancel kar deta hoon aur tumhe doctor ke paas le jaata hoon!
Vish: Nahi nahi, iski zarrorat nahi hai. Halki si sardi khaansi hai, mein dawaii lekar aaram kar loongi toh theek ho jaoongi. Aap chinta mat kijiye aur aaram se jaayiiye. She assured him of her well-being.
Bobby: Par vishakha, agar tumhara bukhar badh gaya toh, mummy bhi nahi hai, who bhi Ladies Club ki weekend party ke liye Chattarpur mein hi rahegi. Agar tumhe kisi cheez ki zarrorat huyi toh?
Vish: Aap chinta mat kijiye, agar zaroorat huyi toh doctor ko bula loongi, warna mummyji ko phone kar doongi. Mein theek hoon. Aap please fikr mat kijiye.
Finally, she managed to assure Bobby that she wasn't very sick and would be fine. She helped him pack and an hour later he left with dadi.
Vish: Keshav, bachche aa jaaye toh khana khila dena. Mein thodi der aaram kar leti hoon.
Keshav: Ji memsahib!
Few hours later: Rohan came on bike from his tution, and Sameer returned at the same time from Radio station, picking Deepika up from her classes on his way. It had started to drizzle already and all were starting to get wet.
Rohan addressing Sameer: Achcha hua hum ghar pahuch gaye. Warna iss bin Mausam barsaat mein puri tarah bheeg jaate. Tumhe pataa hai Sameer, Delhi mein jab baarish hoti hai, bahut jyaada hoti hai. Ek baar shuru ho gayi roh tukne ka naam hi nahi leti.
Just then as if to prove him right, big fat drops started to pour down and all three ran inside the house.
Rohan: Mummy, hum aa gaye.
Keshav came from the kitchen: Memsahib so rahi hai. Aap log kapde badal lo, mein khana garam karta hoon!
Sameer: Mummy so rahi hai, iss waqt?
Keshav: Haan, who memsahib ko thodi sardi khansi thi, isliye aaram kar rahi hai.
Rohan: oh! Aur papa aur dadi kahan hai?
Keshav: Ji sahib toh 2-3 din ke liye Chandigarh gaye hai aur malkin weekend party ke liye Chattarpur.
Rohan: Theek hai, tum khana garam karo, hum aate hai!
All three went to their respective rooms to freshen up but Sameer wanted to check on his mom.
Sameer: Rohan, chalke mummy ko uthate hai hamare saath khana khane ke liye and both went to their mom's room.
The door was slightly ajar and they saw Vishakha's sleeping form. She was in a deep sleep. Both entered her room stealthily and switched on a small lamp, which lightened the room but didn't fall on her eyes, disturbing her sleep.
Sameer placed his hand on her forehead and his eyes widened in shock. He immediately called out.
Sameer: Rohan...mummy ko toh bahut tez bukhar hai, the worry evident in his voice.
Rohan came to the bedside and also checked his mom's forehead. It was burning hot. Sameer lightly tugged at Vishakha's shoulder to try and wake her up calling out, Mummmy Mummy...Rohan also called out in a harried tone, but on receiving no response, he seemed to be scared.
Panic started settling on both boys as they were 17 and 18 respectively. Deepika, who was watching this from the door, came running inside and stood beside her brothers.
Deepika: Sameer bhaiya, kya mummy mar gayi?
Sameer was shocked to hear such doomed words from his 9-year-old sister, but being the eldest, he had to control the situation and not show his fear. He consoled his sister who was on the verge of breaking out into tears.
Sameer: Nahi Deepika. Mummy ko kuch nahi hua hai. Unki thodi tabiyat kharab hai na, toh woh so rahi hai...hume unhe disturb nahi karna chahiye...subah tak theek ho jaayegi. Tum ro mat, jao khana khao, aur so jao.
Sameer called Keshav and sent Deepika with him instructing him to feed her and put her to sleep.
Then, with great courage, he checked his mom's pulse and breaths, though it was weak, it was there and he breathed a sigh of relief.
Sameer: Rohan, hume mummy ko turant doctor ke paas le jaana hoga, inki tabiyat bahut kharab hai.
Rohan: Par Sameer, bahar dekho, kitni baarish ho rahi hai! Papa car aur driver lekar gaye hai. Hum mummy ko bike pe toh nahi le ja sakte na. Itni baarish mein taxi bhi nahi milegi aur kahi raaste mein fans gaye toh?
Sameer: Toh fir kisi doctor ko ghar bulana padega. Tumhare paas kisi doctor ka number hai?
Rohan: Haan hamare family doctor hai, mein call karta hoon.
Rohan tried calling a few times but could not reach the doctor. He also tried calling a couple of other doctors in the vicinity but either some were not available or did not answer the phone. After a few attempts, even the phone connection broke down and now the two were left without communication with the outside world. Their next-door neighbors, Khannas were also out of town for the weekend.
Sameer came down hurriedly after a few moments.
Sameer: Kya hua Rohan? Doctor se baat hui? Kab aa rahe hai?
Rohan: Nahi Sameer, ya toh doctor available nahi hai ya toh koi phone nahi utha raha hai. Meine sabko try kar liya. Ab kya karenge? Ab toh phone bhi kharab ho gaya hai ki hum dadi ya papa ko contact kare? Ab kya karenge? Mummy toh aakhein bhi nahi khol rahi hai. Unhe kuch ho gaya toh?
Sameer: He placed a strong hand on Rohan's shoulder and pressed it. Nahi nahi... Mummy ko kuch nahi hoga. Ab jab tak bahar se madad nahi mil jaati, hume hi unka khayal rakhna hoga!
Both boys tried to calm themselves and then decided.
Sammer: Thande paani ki pattiyan karenge toh bukhar neeche laaya ja sakta hai aur thoda soup pilakar, mummy ko Metacin khila dete hai, use bhi bukhar kam hona chahiye! His years of leaving alone in the hostel had taught him to take basic care of himself.
He called Keshav and asked to prepare tomato soup.
Next, they went upstairs and Rohan started doing cold water wraps on her forehead. Sameer checked her temperature, which was 103 and slightly escalating.
Sameer panicked: Rohan, Mummy ko ek sau teen bukhar hai aur aisa lag raha hai ki badh raha hai... agar aur badha toh dimaag pe chadh jaayega aur yeh behosh ho jaayengi. Hume ise jaldi neeche lana hoga.
Just then Keshav brought hot tomato soup.
Rohan continued with the cold-water wraps and Sameer propped her up slightly and fed her some soup, blowing on it every time so it was not too hot. Next, he brought a tablet of Metacin, and in a small cup, dissolved it in a minimum amount of water as she might not be able to swallow it in her present state. He made her drink it with a spoon and lastly fed her a spoon of honey syrup to cut down the bitterness.
For the rest of the night, the brothers took turns with cold wraps and checking temperature. Neither slept a wink and stayed vigilant by their mother's side. By early morning, her fever had subsided to almost 100 and she opened her eyes and saw both boys on either side of her with head resting on the headboard. She was so happy to see them together and vaguely remembered them taking care of her last night as a duo. She wanted to get up and hug both of them...Finally, she had managed to build that sibling bond between Sameer and Rohan, who although step-brothers, now actually accepted each other as brothers. She coughed lightly and both awoke with a startle.
Sameer: Mummy... aap theek hai? He immediately placed his hand on her forehead and was satisfied that the fever was much less than the previous night.
Rohan hugged Vishakha: Thank god Mummy aap theek ho...kal raat ko toh mein darr hi gaya tha! Agar Sameer nahi hota toh pata nahi kya hota, mujhe toh samaj hi nahi aa raha tha ki mein kya karu. Sammer ne ek bade bhai ki tarah mujhe aur Deepika ko sambhala.
Sameer: Smiled at Rohan. Both boys hugged their mom.
Rohan: Sameer tum Mummy ke paas raho, mein Keshav ko kuch khane ke liye bolta hoon, bahut bhookh lagi hogi na, aur doctor ko bhi phone try karke aata hoon.
Vishakha was very happy seeing them bond so beautifully. Now only if her husband and MIL would accept Sameer whole-heartedly, she would have her family complete.
An hour later:
Bobby walked in the house tailed by his mom calling out Vishakha.
Keshav informed them that Vishakha had taken severely ill last night and a doctor was checking her right now.
Bobby and his mom hurried to his room and saw the doctor checking her. The siblings were patiently waiting just near the threshold.
Bobby hurried to the bedside: Vishaka, kya hua tumhe? Tum theek toh ho?
Doctor: Chinta karne ki koi baat nahi hai...Viral infection lag raha hai...Meine check karke dawaiyan likh di hai, aap samay par dete rahiye aur meine etihaat ke liye blood sample le liya hai. Kal tak report aa jayegi.
Bobby thanked the doctor and asked Keshav to seen him out. Then he tuned back to Vishakha: Tumhari tabiyat itni kharab ho gayi...agar kuch ho jaata toh!
Vishakha: Mein bilkul theek hooon, aap pareshan mat hoyiye...Sameer aur Rohan the na mere saath, unhone bahut khayal rakha mera, raat bhar ek palak nahi jhapkayi...
Bobby acknowledged both the boys...though he didn't think of Sameer much, he couldn't deny that after all he was Vishakha's first-born and how much ever strained relationship they shared, he would not not care for his mother.
Vishakha: Par aap aur Mummyji itni jaldi kaise wapas aa gaye?
Bobby: Arre hum toh pahuch hi nahi paaye, mushkil se Chattarpur pahuch rahe the ki bahut tez baarish shuru ho gayi aur traffic mein fans gaye...Subah raasta saaf hote hi wapas aa gaye.
Dadi: Vishakha tum aaram karo, Bobby, tum bhi fresh ho jao! Rohan, tumhare school ka waqt ho gaya hai...jao tayyar ho jao!
Rohan: Nahi Dadi, aaj mein kahi nahi ja raha...aaj yahi mummy ke paas rahoonga!
Dadi was furious that slowly her hold on her household was loosening ever since Sameer came. She had to think something to remove him from here at the earliest. She had also noticed that Bobby had started softening towards Sameer too and if he actually transferred a third part of their shares to Sameer, then that would mean, a piece of less pie for Rohan and Deepika, which she couldn't allow. What she failed to understand that the siblings had started to bond and there was no feeling of "step amongst them. She wickedly pushed her nakli hair behind her ear and devised an evil plan.
Both boys had taken turns to sit beside their mom whole day to make sure she ate and took her medicines on time. She was still too weak to get out of her room or do anything else by herself. Vishakha was overwhelmed by how much they cared for her, specially Sameer. He did not hold any grudge that she had failed him all these years as a mother, in sickness and health, in happy times or sorrow. Today he was there for her, a rock/solid support and had also assumed the role of the eldest brother without even realizing it. He was a strong, spirited, kind-hearted boy, thanks to her father's upbringing and she remembered her promise to her dying father that she would always stand by him and always support him.
