Farhan Akhtar is one actor who has never
shied away from speaking out his mind.
Time and again, he has encouraged people
to speak against what's wrong in the
society. Today, the actor spoke about sexual
harassment in the Bollywood industry.
He said, "I've heard of people talking about
issues with the casting couch. But I don't
know anybody personally to whom it
[harassment] has happened that I can
encourage to speak up. Or the other thing,
[it] hasn't happened to me... But, whoever
has something to share of this magnitude
if they've been taken advantage of or
exploited it's up to them to decide
whether they want to speak up or not. I
can't force anybody. But at the end of the
day, if they feel it's time, then they should
without any fear.''
Recently, in the wake of the Hrithik Roshan-
Kangana Ranaut controversy, Farhan spoke
about how a woman may not necessarily
always be the victim. He had said, "I don't
think that would be true from existing
records or information out there on public
domain. I do believe that more often than
not, it is the woman, who is harassed but it
doesn't mean all the time."
Earlier, talking about the sexual harassment
at workplace, Farhan had said, 'Wherever
there is an industry where the power
dynamic is in play -- be it corporate, be it
film industry, such issues will unfortunately
occur. But I think right now, the world over,
the environment is such where all the
women should feel empowered and secure
to come out and share their stories. There is
a constant dialogue on gender equality,
gender discrimination across the globe. I
think anyone who has their heart and mind
in the right place, will support them."
On the professional front, Farhan was last
seen in "Lucknow Central", directed by Ranjit
Tiwari, along with Diana Penty.
