PART 68
"Where is Arjun and Annie by the way?", dadi looked around.
"I will find them.", Geet excused herself looking as he nodded in agreement.
Geet went away looking for them and it was just Maan and his dadima. He had the dessert in quiet for a minute.
Savitri Devi broke the silence, "Maan beta, last time I left you two, you both were so happy. I prayed to God to let things be that way all your life."
Maan stopped playing with his fork and knife and looked here and there.
"I too pray for that every day dadima. I can not imagine a life without Geet", his voice was strained with some pain.
"Maan? Why would you even say that?", dadi sushed him. "It's been not even a month after your marriage."
"It's nothing dadima...nothing actually"
"Maan! I don't want to interfere between you two but sometimes talking out loud might clarify things.", she prompted.
"I don't know dadima. I keep telling myself that it is nothing. But...I don't know. There is this part of me that is scared that all this happiness, joy, all of it might just vanish! Even the thought of it scares me dadi. I can't think about Geet going away from me!", when he said that out loud Maan realised how much it hurt him.
"Then don't think about it. Maan, all you need to think is how to be a better husband to your wife. You have this moment right now which you are spending by worrying too much. Instead, figure out what is not working between you and Geet. Fix it and then all your worries will go away!"
Maan nodded gravely lost in his thoughts.
Just then Nakul arrived with a mobile phone, "Badi mem sahb, phone for you".
Dadi took the phone and excused herself leaving Maan all by himself.
His thoughts ran randomly through the events of the week. Something had gone wrong. He was sure. He had once acted without a thought, but not this time. He had to fix it up. Maan skimmed through his memories and remembered the gift. Was it the job? But he had asked that and she had denied. The way she was working, it was hard to believe that she didn't like the job. If it was not the job, then what could it be? Eventually, the arguement hit him. She was fighting for something, for them and suddenly she gave up! It hit him like a bolt. She gave up when he monotonously declared that he didn't want a family with her! What had he done? She was his wife and a child was as much her right as it was his! And he denied her that! NO!
He should have asked her opinion, discussed it! Once again he had dumped his whims on her! He looked around for his wife. He wanted to run to her and tell her that he never ever meant to hurt her. Somehow he had assumed that this was what she would want! How foolish he had been to think that.
Shouldn't he know that there was so much love in her heart that she would never even fear to discirminate or hurt her children that way!
In that enormous dining hall, Maan Singh Khurana sat alone smiling and yet tears flowing down his eyes as he thought about his wife and loved her even for being able to creat these swirl of emotions that he didn't even realise existed within him.

Annie was walking holding Arjun's hand in hers, "You think bhai will agree?"
"Nope. Anwesha, I don't think Maan will agree to this!"
"Can't you stay positive for me?" she complained cutely.
"That would be lying. I can't do that!", he said moving her loose strand of hair behind her ear.
She pushed his hand away and faked anger. Arjun lifted her in his arms and took her on his lap in the swing that was at the far right corner of the lawn. They were swinging together, with her on his lap, lost in each other.
That was how Geet found them as she came looking for them.
She cleared her throat looking away. Arjun and Annie straightened themselves startled by seeing Geet there.
"Dadima was looking for you both."
Annie eyed Arjun to talk to her but he denied. Before they could sort the fight, Geet was gone. Arjun and Annie followed her quickly.
When Geet returned back, she could not fathom the way Maan looked at her. Of course, he always looked at her like she was something divine or the centre of his whole system but tonight it was so evident and intense that Geet found herself burning under his gaze. There was no way she could refuse anything to this man. She could not wait to be in his arms. But this was the living room of Khurana mansion and they were surrounded by family.
Annie finally moved next to her bhai and took his hand in hers, "Bhai..bhabhi I am sorry for everything. I know I can't take anything back. But if you could move back to the mansion, I will believe that you have forgiven me...This is your home. No one can make you stay away from it."
Maan gently pressed the hand that was on Annie's. He looked at her lovingly, "Annie, you are my kid sister! There is nothing to forgive. But Geet and I, we just made a new start to our life. I think we need our time, just us. Her, me and Mia. And it has nothing to do with you, believe me. If it means anything, we will visit you on weekends and spend time together. Of course I have to meet dadima too. But we won't be moving back in right now. Don't take it the wrong way kiddo.."
Annie nodded smiling sadly, "I understand. But I had to try na?"
And then Maan looked at Geet who was already happy watching them both reconcile. Their eyes met as he said in the most simple and callous way possible, "Haa..if tomorrow we feel our apartment is small, you know with our family getting bigger..we might be moving back."
Now it was Geet's turn to look at him wide-eyed. Did he read her mind and if so how? She wondered. She didn't utter a word and yet he knew. He knew and he took away her pain just in a few words. Geet was almost scared by the power that this man had on her.
"Ohooo bhai...already you are thinking?", teased Annie.
Maan got up and sat next to the handrest of the couch on which Geet sat. He kept his hand on her shoulder lovingly and announced, "What do you mean already? If we plan to make an army, shouldn't we start now, he na Geet?"
"Maaan!", she whacked him playfully as she hid herself behind his waist blushing crmison.
Dadima laughed heartily clearly glad that whatever the issues the couple had, they had already resolved it.
"Alright then! I am leaving too and I think you two should get going..if you want to start working on that army that is...", teased Arjun.
Geet glared at him. But before she could do anything, she felt herself being lifted from the ground.
"Maan...please", she hit his chest playfully and when he showed no signs of yielding she hid herself on his firm chest as he carried her in arms. The others waved goodbye smiling.
At last they were alone in the car and rode in silence for a few minutes.
Geet looked around restlessly. There were various emotions playing in her heart but the one that was paying no heed to her rationale was the love that she felt for him at the moment.
She blurted out, "How did you know Maan?"
When Maan threw a quick glance he saw the way she was looking at him, as if he meant the whole world to her and perhaps that was the truth too.
He smiled, "Mishty, didn't I promise you that from now on, what ever happens it will be according to your wish. Then how come I remain ignorant about my wife's wishes? You know Maan Singh Khurana never backs out from his word!"
Geet shook her head. All she could figure out was he somehow read her mind. She ran her hand gently on his arms and then up to his shoulders. It was becoming too hard for her to keep her hands off him.
Neither of them knew how they got home that night. By the time they managed to sneak into the bedroom, their lips were locked as if there was no tomorrow.
It was urgent the way they moved as if they had both had enough of it, enough of being separate from each other. They wanted to be one that night and when they did it was as ecstatic as it could get. The whole night they just could not get enough of each other.
Later in the dawn when they were lying naked in each others arms mumbling those sweet nothings, Maan caressed her arms gently, "You know Mishty, I only said that because I thought that is what you would have wanted."
Geet pouted, "Why would I? Of course I want to have a kid with you.."
She turned around and caressed his firm chest making him relax with her gentle touches.
"Well, last time when it was about us you chose Mia over as. And as happy as I am you did that, I assumed...I shouldn't have. I am sorry!"
"Don't be! You didn't do it on purpose. It's over and let us not talk about it now", she consoled him.
Maan playfully nuzzled on the hollow of her neck as he whispered hoarsely, "It's only fair if I work hard..harder.."
Geet laughed as he tickled her, "Stop it Maan! I am working tomorrow. Besides, it's not like I want a kid right now. Now that I am working, let's get settled with Paegeant first and then think about a baby,ok?"
Maan sighed, "See now that is not fair. You wake up the ashiq in me and then put a ban!"
Geet blushed as she played with his nipples, "Who is putting a ban? I am just tired now. Not anymore tonight.."
Maan smiled and brought her even more closer to him if that was even possible, "Look in to my eyes and let me drown in yours. Your sweet sleep will come to you.."
Geet moaned, "Is it weird that even if that sounds so cheesy I'm falling for it."
But Maan was already kissing down her arms moving to her belly button making her squirm in pleasure as she moaned out his name, "Maaan...".
So much for the thought that the night was over already!!

Dev Khurana was burning from inside. His family had abandoned him just before he needed them the most. His brother was after his wife. And the money that he cared so little about was so scarce when he really needed it. He went around asking his friends but everyone blocked him out and in the end when all the doors closed before him, he had to take help from the Rathores. With what little pride he had, he reached US and moved mountains to meet his wife. The wife who didn't even want to meet him intially until she realised that he was the lone person out there willing to help her.
Dev loved Nain Tara. He wanted to believe that his wife would not steep to the kind of lows that she was accused of and intially he held on to that. He hated his brother and his own biological daughter for putting her in that position. But as the trial began and the evidence unfolded, it was an eye opener for Dev.
The mask had been removed and he truly got to see what his wife was. It dwindled his self-belief. The truth belittled him. It was staring at his face and making him realise that somewhere along the line he too had been an unwilling partner in crime for her. He danced to her tunes and let her do whatever she wanted just because that made life easier for him. For the first time Dev Khurana felt as if he lost everything.
If only he had taken the hard route and chosen Mira, none of this would have happened. His brother would have lived his happy life with Geet. Mira would have been alive and he, well, he could have seen his daughter grow up. And for the very first time in his life Dev Singh Khurana cried his heart out, thinking about his innocent daughter whom he had never really accepted before.
He held himself responsible for every thing that went wrong and punished himself from the day his wife was sentenced to imprisonment for six years. Dev lived off the streets in NYC. He did some odd jobs and found the money to keep himself alive. Apart from that he never made any real effort to live and tortured himself by living the life of a wanderer. The burden of truth borke him into pieces and left him shattered.
