Arjun's character has pretty much been the worst written character on the show and KTs below par performance makes his character appear all the more shallow and one dimensional.
In season 1 the writers hinted at a lot of possibilities of there being more to Arjun than what meets the eye but none of that came into play in season 2 where Arjun had pretty much only one thing to do i.e be RIDICULOUSLY DUMB. some of the things that was shown but never addressed later or given closure:
1. Arjun's true motive behind marrying Maya - There were a lot of hints about this in season 1
- Arjun's dialogue during the bachelor party and then the day after that to Ayaan hinting at a possibility that Arjun married Maya for money and power. He might have loved Maya but the package that she came with attracted him more than the woman itself.
- Arjun being happy about moving out of his house and into Maya's penthouse. Him wanting to use her luxury car for work
- Vikram and other office workers taunting Arjun about how he managed to trap the boss and become the owner of the company
- Suman telling Vandana to consider the possibility that Arjun might have married Maya for the money and that he is willingly putting up with Maya for that.
Most importantly Maya was a witness to all these incidents (except the Suman -Vandy one). We never saw Maya reacting or questioning Arjun about this. Nor was this angle brought up in season 2. I don't think the writers would have shown so many scenes hinting at something like this if this was never meant to have any significance in the story. So will this come into play in the final phase? Is there more to Arjun or will his careless statements come to bite his ass during the court trial?
2. Arjun's sherwani piece and hair being discovered at Ashwin's murder site - When Saanjh asks him how that reached there Arjun did not answer her and just claimed that he was innocent. They never addressed how that got there. Did he go to meet Ashwin that day? Did Maya / Samay do that to frame him? Again this has not been answered yet.
3. Arjun being a very careless and irresponsible husband - Again season 1 hinted at Arjun not really being a very irresponsible husband to Maya.
- He is seen flirting with all the women in his office in spite of having a pregnant wife back home.
- He leaves his pregnant wife alone on multiple occasions to go meet his bff
- In spite of promising his wife that he won't drink till their baby is born he is seen getting drunk with his bff and complaining to her about how his wife does not let him drink.
- Tells his bff (when he is drunk) that he is irritated by his wife and that he likes spending time with his bff instead and that he loves her.
- Shows more concern for his bff's dupatta catching fire that his wife's hand getting burnt
- Is more interested in playing holi with his bff than with his wife
All this was never brought up in season 2. The 3 years of ArYa's marriage was only ever shown from Arjun's perspective. We never really saw anything from Maya's perspective. Did Arjun change and become a good husband post season 1 and it was just Maya who lost her marbles or were there more incidents like these that prompted Maya to become this over possessive, controlling wife who monitored his every move?
Also will all these incidents come into play now during Arjun's trial? If Maya kept a record of these incidents in her diary then these might prove to the world that Arjun was never a good husband.
This being a finite show where the writers already know the story and the characters fate, I would believe that there was a reason why they chose to show all the above things in season 1. I wonder how all this will finally play out in the show. They could either show that Arjun is not like he seems and has been an unreliable narrator all this while. Or they could show that all these careless statements made by Arjun will come back to bite his ass, as they will be proof that Arjun was with Maya for her money (even though that might not be true). Most of these incidents happened in public and all these people could be summoned as characters witnesses for Arjun.
I am hoping that they actually justify the show being touted as a thriller and show us something thrilling, interesting and unexpected and it does'nt turn out that all this was just lazy writing and that none of this was even relevant to the story.
