Rani was nominated for Hum Tum and Preity for Veer Zaara for best actress in Filmfare 2005. Rani won the award. At that time I found Rani's performance better. But few dys ago I saw both films and found Preity's performance realistic. Though Rani is a better actress than reity, but I found her acting in Hum Tum superficial.

PZ hands down! Her Zaara was one of the most earthy characters that carried a sweet old world charm back then..

Preity FTW! Her lovely, multi-layered performance as the Muslim beauty Zaara had so many shades ⭐️
Bubbly in the first half, crestfallen during the second half and totally shattered as the aging woman towards the climax 😳

Rani was too loud and annoying in Hum Tum 🥱
God knows how she won the award over the likes of Urmila(absolutely sublime in Ek Hasina Thi) and Shilpa(who delivered her career best performance in Phir Milenge) 😲
No wait, I get it now.. just because she had the backing of YRF! Go figure

I loved Rani in Hum Tum. She was brilliant in the role she portrayed.

But Preity's character was so much more subtle and realistic. You could relate more with her character.

While I'm happy Rani won the best actress award that year, I do have to admit that it was an unfair win and there were more deserving performances in that category.

Rani's win was surprising. 😕 She deserved supporting trophies for Yuva/Veer Zara... but lead actress belonged to Urmila's avenging hell-hath-no-fury performance in EHT. 👏 👏

Then came Preity and Shilpa ... only after which Rani in HT made sense. 🤓

I'm really shocked at the results because back in 2004, I hated Rani because I loved PZ. The fans hated each other and I also didn't like how Rani won over PZ but that was more of an ego thing. Rani in HT was definitely better than PZ in VZ.

I was so excited for VZ, more than I was for any movie ever especially because SRK-PZ were coming together after KHNH but one of the biggest disappointments was that PZ just didn't seem to have the required grace and elegance Zaara needed. I was so so disappointed but couldn't admit it back then 🤣

Now I'm over it and can definitely say Rani was better!

How about that? 😆

The thing is I have never found PZ that great in anything (looks, acting)... She was definitely good as Zaara though.

I watched Hum Tum in bits and peaces... and found nothing special about the film or Rani in it... About Rani... I like her acting more than PZ.

In short I am confused 😆
