HC backs Sonu Nigam's azaan tweet, says loudspeakers not compulsory in Islam
As per the latest updates, the petition has been rejected by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court called the petition a cheap attempt to gain publicity.
Slamming the petition the court further said that Azaan are the important part of Islamic worship but loudspeakers are not.
As per the reports published in an English daily Hindustan Times, the observation was made by a single-judge bench comprising justice MMS Bedi.
Stating his objection against Nigam's controversial tweet, a local resident from Sonepat Aas Mohammad filed a petition against him. He said that Nigam's tweet violated the sentiments of Hindu community.
However, reacting to the petition, the court said, 'A fair interpretation of the words used by respondent no 4 (Nigam) clearly indicates that the word gundagardi' in tweet no 4 is not addressed in the context of Azaan but the use of loudspeakers and amplifiers."
Further Justice Sampath stated that the words used in Nigam's tweet was not to hurt or insult the sentiments of any religion as no such mention was made in his tweet regarding any religion but it was for loudspeakers.
