Forget her great South work for a moment, she displayed a wide range in Hindi movies too. She could do grey (Laadla) , comedy (long list), plain jane (Chandni, EV) etc with equal ease.

Yes she has an accented Hindi but with the exception of Rekha, most other South Indian actresses doo (not those born 1-2 decades later and raised in Mumbai walis... stop with your Ash, Vidya, DP examples 😉). Compare her with Jayaprada and her other south batch mates who couldn't reach her level of success.

All said and done, she ruled supreme in Hindi industry in particulary in the timeframe 83 - 93 despite the language crutch. Her dialogue delivery also changes with roles... watch her in Laadla, prime example of how her speech has that confidence stamp on it vs. an EV.

The sad part is that her reign was during the time when quality roles weren't written for women. I'm SO GLAD that she is able to tap in today's filmmakers. EV was a gem... and hope MOM is another remarkable performance.

A lady truly born to ACT! No wonder she is the favorite of all the actresses, especially the ones who are known for their chops. Keep guessing who!!⭐️⭐️

🥳🥳

Ikr. 😆 All of my favorite actresses idolizes her LOL. Kangana, Vidya, Kajol. Not sure about Tabu. I think Pari is Madhuri's fan. I've no idea about Anushka.

But, being favourite of others isn't everything for me. Like Dilip Kumar too is everyone's favorite and as considered the greatest actor of BW but he's overrated for me. I've never been fond of Dilip Kumar's acting. 😆

Anyways, respect your opinion. 😛

+Juhi, Koko, Lolo, Bebo, Tabu too 😆

And I respect yours! You can't choose who you warm up to.

She is my childhood favorite and so know her filmography and career very INTIMATELY.

Kinda like how I know about KANGANA now.

2. Lamhe & Kshana Kshanam (Telugu) - Lost it to Assamese actress.

3. English Vinglish

Her movies in Hindi were commercial.

As much Shabana is a brilliant actress and so is Smita, the kind of roles they did were "arty". Can you imagine Shabana pulling off commercial movies of 80s-90s??? She was a misfit there.

It's just that there was a delineated parallel and commercial cinemas back then and actors made a CONSCIOUS choice.

Sridevi chose to be commercial even when she said in her IVs that her Hindi roles back in 80s were less challenging compared to what she did in 70s and early 80s in South.

A lady with such filmography had to wait until 2013 to win a PadmaShri... for instance!😲

Shabana actually took time in submitting herself to arthoue films. She completely handed herself to Parallel cinema since 80's, before that she had done many arthouse films but she used to do commercial films as well & received appreciation there too but yes she was never a huge successful commercial star like Sri, Madz & etc. But, from 80's she had become serious for parallel cinema like Smita Patil.

Smita Patil too got appreciation in commercial cinema.

I think people who don't like her have issues with her accent and diction primarily.

Hope someone offers her a silent movie. I bet she will win a National Award for it... especially if it is well made like a Pushpak or The Artist or even a Barfi.

She's such an actress whose eyes does all the talking and emoting. I can guarantee the audience will be intrigued by her performance in such a film. She will convey what her character needs too FAR MORE effectively !!!

+1

She was far far far superior to the overrated actresses this forum gives way too much importance to. For an example, Lolo or Madhuri.

Every Actor and Actress has their own limitations. Sridevi is no less.

Heck even the great Meryl Streep has her lmitations where her personality and standard acting skills show in every role she does. Katherine Hepburn won 4 Oscars in all those four films she played a slightly different version of herself.

But i agree with comments on her dialogue delivery/accent and shrill voice. They get irritating at times.

@Bold NO. Nothing like that. I'm not one of those who doesn't appreciate artist's talent for their off-screen persona. Like, I'm not much fond of PC but I've always admitted that she's a darn good actress.

It wasn't aimed at you. I came across others too... who would complain about her accent and dialogue delivery. Even a few members in my family had issues. 😆

But the point is... everyone agrees SHE CAN ACT! So I thought why not make a movie where voice doesn't play a role AT ALL. 😆

Uh, she is a very good actress... however, I will not speak much on her acting because I have not seen any of her hindi movies.

She has a screen-presence that I think is unmatched. Recently, I watched a telugu movie in which she acted, I couldn't get my eyes off her even for a second. She has an ease, is alluring, her body language is so so so good... I still cannot explain in words what makes her so magnetic when she steps on screen. I'm not even talking about her looks, infact, I never found her physically appealing, it's her acting + body language..
Not many actresses can do what she did/does, even if they try, or study her for a lifetime.. she is THAT natural, and she is her own brand, like a wonder of her own.. That is a rarity. I'm not even exaggerating, sorry but it's the sad truth. 😛 Even when she may be what we say 'overacting'(was common in those days), she has a perfection, looks very graceful doing so... This grace that she has, I have seen again in Madhuri Dixit - her own kind though(I'm speaking only about 'grace' not their acting).
