Celebrity marriages in the entertainment world took a hit in 2016, with the year starting off with Farhan Akhtar ending his 15-year marriage to Adhuna Bhabani. Now, right at the beginning of 2017, comes confirmation of yet another seemingly happy marriage coming to an end. After seven years of marriage, Nandita Das and Subodh Maskara have decided to separate. They have a six-year old son,Vihaan. When Nandita was contacted to confirm the rumours, she was candid enough to confirm it. She said, "Yes, it is true. Subodh and I have decided to separate. Thankfully, it is very amicable. Our son is our foremost priority and as parents of a delightful and sensitive child we request that his and our privacy be respected. There's nothing to hide and there's nothing more to be said." She hopes they will be left alone to deal with the situation in peace.Reluctant to say more, Nandita adds, "Separation is never easy, more so if you have a child. For us, our son is our main concern and we are committed to ensuring his well-being." Subodh is travelling overseas, so was not reachable. It was on January 2 2010, the two had got married post which Nandita moved to Mumbai. Nadita Das was earlier married to Saumya Sen but they got divorced in 2002.

In other news, we will be seeing Nandita Das back in the director's bench after 9 years with her next venture. This time, her film is based on the Sadat Hasan Mnato, a famous controversial writer who contributed largely before his sudden death at the age of 42. Reportedly, she has his 3 daughter's full sport for this biopic. In fact, they have shared snippets form his life, that may not have been known to the people outside. "Manto is not a typical biopic but will focus on the seven most tumultuous years of his life, from 1946 to 1952. It takes us through his glorious days in '40s Bombay, the Partition and then his downward spiralling life in Lahore. Nandita had revealed to a leading daily. But owing to the Indo-Pak tensions last year, the director has decided to shoot the Lahore portions India as well. Nawazudidn Siddiqui has been roped in to play this famous character, he is excited to be part of this film.
