I think after his transformation by the end of the book, he would. After all, he believes in marrying for love, and if his daughter fell in love, I don't think he'd stand in her way as long as the man was respectable.

But I think Mr. Thornton's father was a gentleman, right? I forgot the back story, but I thought John Thornton was forced to become a tradesman to provide for his mother and sister.

His father was someone who speculated wildly and lost everything ...he was taken out of school and was made to work as a draper's boy when he was sixteen. His father committed suicide leaving behind a huge debt which Thornton had to repay...He even lost the house.😭
