Underworld has been one of the favorite themes of Bollywood films in the last decade and when we talk about underworld, Dawood Ibrahim is the first name that comes to mind. Several films and characters have been directly or indirectly inspired by the don. We list down the top 10 portrayals of Dawood in Bollywood films.

Anurag Kashyap's Black Friday' was the first film that dared to take the name of the don Dawood Ibrahim and the character played by Vijay Maurya was modeled exactly like the Dubai don.

Sanjay Gupta dared to use real names of Dawood and his elder brother Sabir played by Sonu Sood and Manoj Bajpayee in his underworld film Shootout at Wadala. But the names were subsequently changed to Dilawar and Zubair in the final film.

Ram Gopal Varma's Company was the first film which derived inspiration from Dawood Ibrahim and Ajay Devgn's character was clearly modeled on him.

Ram Gopal Varma continued his fascination with Dawood in his next production D' where Randeep Hooda played the character, modeled on the don.

Milan Luthria's Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai followed the underworld saga of the 80s and Emraan Hashmi's character was modeled on Dawood Ibrahim.

In the sequel - Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai 2, Akshay Kumar will take forward the character played by Emraan Hashmi in the first part.

Vivek Oberoi played Maya Dolas in Shootout at Lokhandwala who was second-in-command to the big boss in Dubai, a clear reference to Dawood Ibrahim. The film however never mentioned his name.

Rishi Kapoor's character in the upcoming film D-Day, directed by Nikhil Advani, is apparently modeled on Dawood Ibrahim. The actor will once again be seen in negative shade in the film after Agneepath.

Vinod Khanna made a comeback with Risk and his character of an underworld don in the film was seemingly inspired by Dawood.

Now there is movie on Dawood's sister played by Shardha kapoor. How many movie have hollywood produced on Osama bin laden ?

yes Bollywood does seem to be obsessed with Dawood... but they are also hell bent on portraying criminals and gangsters as people with good heart who have gone on the wrong path due to circumstances... who doesn't love a lost cause?

I would compare Dawood/underworld themed movies to Scarface, Godfather, Sopranos, Public Enemies, Bonnie & Clyde and the likes. Osama Bin Laden is not a fair comparison. Movies have also been made about despots like Idi Amin and Caligula.

It is not the glorification of crime and manslaughter. The criminal world provides colorful characters with interesting narratives to carry out an engaging story.

Why ? What Dawood did was even worst then Osama, isn't it ? Osama was mastermind of 9/11 which killed over 2700 people isnt less then bombay blast which killed over 900 people, infact dawood has caused more problem then Osama.

I agree on the second part that criminal have colorful character but its indirectly making popular those culprit who deserve to be hanged or killed.

I havent seen any other main stream movie maker trying to explore biopic on this criminal. Who knows how many brother or sister osama had ? but this year there will be story on dawood sister next will be on mother...
