@aekiel,
I agree that Gauri has been shown as a submissive character till now. But here onward if she doesn't stand for herself and keep bearing Amma's lashes then it is difficult for her to survive in Benares. If yes, then how CVs will show two cultures coming together? There will be nobody to do so.
My interpretation about the change in Gauri's character comes from below 3 points:
1. As per promotional clip, Gauri has been shown celebrating Gudhipadwa in Benares. If she stays meek as always, she won't be able to incorporate Marathi culture into North Indian culture. And immediately, in the next scene she touches her parents' feet with the pallu over her head, which is North Indian ritual. So, she will be extracting good qualities from both the cultures.
2. Another promotional clip- Dudhi-Lauki scene. Wherein, upon asking by Amma- what's going on? She very firmly says 'Dudhi Halwa' instead of 'Lauki ka Kalwa'. IMO this shows strong nature of Gauri.
3. In the above mentioned interview Rishi talks about future characterization of Gauri. So, my statements by and large come from his affirmation. Aur agar aisa nahin hua, to main zarur Rishi ko pakadke marungi 😉
