Chinese drama recommendations needed

I am currently watching Love O2O and it's my first C-drama. Based on the reviews, I was hoping it would turn out to be good...but I didn't expect it to be so good. Now I want to watch more C-dramas, so I need some recommendations other than Boss and Me/Shan Shan comes to eat and Love me if you dare. Those two are already on my watchlist. Also, are there any other good dramas starring Yang Yang or Zheng Shuang? I am loving these two here and I want to watch more of them.

Please don't recommend any Taiwanese ones. I've already tried several popular ones and I was only able to finish Autumn's Concerto. Somehow TW dramas don't click with me.

You Are My Sunshine (Silent Separation) - bland FL (more like her character - gets better as the drama goes though) but really really good chemistry between the leads..and the ML is amazing! Also you see good development between the leads' relationship.

Loving, Never Forgetting - this is decent..nothing great. But the leads have nice chemistry & there is a kid so yeah.

Sealed With A Kiss - WARNING. This is not everyone's cup of tea, as the ML rapes the FL & keeps her as his mistress. Just from a story POV, it was good. If you're looking for something intense, this is it. The ML's acting was BRILLIANT.

Huan Zhu Ge Ge (Princess Pearl) - this one's a period drama..I don't remember much of the story anymore as I grew up watching it on TV but then I have fond memories of the characters. Its one of the classics.

To be honest, I prefer Taiwanese dramas to Chinese dramas. The older TW dramas were really good. Loads of gems. Autumn's Concerto was decent, but not as amazing as everyone makes it out to be. One TW drama that you have to check out is MARS. That was just BRILLIANCE, right from the acting, to the script, to the romance. Very romantic, but equally engaging on a psychological level. Will recommend more only if you like it. I am yet to come across someone who doesn't like or appreciate MARS though.😆

Maybe I haven't come across the right TW dramas. I mostly tried popular TW romcoms like Devil Beside You, Fated to love you, Meteor Garden...and from the recent ones, I tried Refresh Man and Moon River. I've only watched the first epi of DBY and it was super funny, but somehow I didn't feel interested enough to continue. Dropped all the others as well. I have watched about 8-10 episodes of Meteor Garden. Since I already watched BOF, HYD...I just didn't have enough patience watch the same story for the third time. There's another one that I tried but I can't remember the name.

I have heard a lot about MARS and how this is easily one of the best TW dramas. I liked Vic in MG, but I didn't like Barbie...so I was apprehensive about watching MARS.

I found Autumn's Concerto different from the others, so I enjoyed it...and I really liked the chemistry between the leads.

Btw, is Mandarin spoken a bit differently in Mainland and Taiwan? I could be wrong but I feel like it sounds a little different from when I watched TW dramas.

They're classic more because of the actors involved (plus chemistry) & also they were the first few asian dramas to get really popular worldwide. Like way way before Korean dramas or J-doramas became popular. But in terms of substance & quality, they're definitely not the best.

Barbie & Vic were amazing in MARS. Both their best roles in their entire career IMO & I have watched most of their work. Poles apart from how they were in Meteor Garden. Don't even compare, be it the chemistry or the acting.😆 MARS is one of those rare dramas where manga turned into live action was done right. I could go on & on about it but I'd rather you watch it first then let me know. You may very well be one of the few who didn't like it. It's not everyone's cup of tea anyway.

Autumn's Concerto had amazing chemistry between the leads etc & Ren Guang Xi was an amazing character..its like Vanness was born to play RGX. But from a writing POV, definitely not the best. It was decent IMO. I can see why so many people love it though.

Yes, Mandarin in China & Taiwan is slightly different. The dialects are different. To put it simply, its like the difference between British English & American English. Maybe it's because I am used to speaking or grew up with TW-chinese, but yeah I don't quite like the way Chinese is spoken in China.😆

Hi...you have mentioned that you are in for Chinese and not TW but couldn't help but recommend Marry me, or Not...its taiwanese and my first one...but this one took me by surprise...hopefully you can give this a try...the ML is awesome and the FL is no less...give it a shot it might be your cup of tea or coffee...😉
