Hey fellow aficionados! Hola! So I usually don't do a scene by scene dissection of episodes because I have a policy of not contemplating much and just enjoying the show for the show's sake. But yesterday was such a landmark episode not only in terms of acting but also in terms of storytelling. Never has an episode of any show forced me to reflect so much. I couldn't write this earlier because it has been such an emotional rollercoaster that I just had to take time to collect myself before writing anything.
So here it goes (in chronological order)-
1. First of I simply love it how the CVs always start off from where they left in the previous episode.
2. Sumo at last is sure of herself. And I think the CV's use of the letter written by Shravan is completely justified. They used it in the best way they could. Years ago it served as a contrivance for Shravan to realize his own love for Sumo. And today when the tables have turned it is again fulfilling its purpose. But this time making Sumo accept her love for Shravan. Two different persons, two different ages, one purpose, one letter. There was a lot of speculation that the letter has been used too early in the story. But in my judgment it could not have been exercised more justifiably.
3. Years ago Shravan longed for Sumo. Today Sumo is waiting for Shravan. I love how she kept mulling over Shravan's words- "I've moved on". Now Sumo will understand how Shravan felt when she forgot about reading the letter. She will be able to internalize the apprehension, the anticipation, the hesitation as well as Shravan's inhibitions much better. She will understand why it was such a big deal. The world does run in circles.
4. Now for the irony. Just before the scene where Shravan comes to meet Sumo to bid her goodbye they show Sumo asking for that one last chance from providence, so that she could tell Shravan- "Kal tum mujhse pyaar karte the, aaj main tumhe chahti hoon". And in the very next scene she is tongue tied. Fate gave her her chance and she couldn't bring herself to confess her feelings. Explains why Shravan has reserved his feelings too.
5. The swing scene. It was symbolic of a lot of emotions before too at Sumo's parents' house. And today Shravan wanted Sumo to relive it. It showed how he will be that anchor to her swing even when he is sprained (serious pun intended). Then he kneels down in front of her. Just like he kneels down every time she is heartbroken. He kneeled down for her when he stayed (i.e. throughout the case). And even today when he is leaving. Clearly shows his priorities.
6. The scene where he is leaving. He stands up and waits for Sumo to stand up too. To take her leave. It was so obvious then that Sumo wanted to just take him in a hug. Hold him to herself. To never let him go. But he extended his hand. Just like how Sumo is ready to kiss him on the terrace as "fees". But he asks for her friendship. She is dying to give love. But he chose her friendship.
7. "Kyoon hai dabi si khwahishein dil me tere bewajah,
Ja ke zara usse bole de chahta jise tu raha,
Kahi teri khamoshiyan jeet na jaaye pyaar se,
Mil jaane de dil jo bane EK DUJE KE VAASTE."
They've always used this part of the song for Shravan. Yesterday they used it for Sumo. I hope this says it all.
8. Shravan Malhotra faced a storm before in his life 10 years ago when his family broke. But it did not break him as much as Sumo's nonchalance did. 10 years ago Sumo was the one to who brought him the premonitions of an impending storm. And sadly even today she had to be the one to break the news to Shravan.
9. I love how they apply the concept of "Ek Duje Ke Vaaste" time and again. They really do live by it. Shravan fights the case for Sumo. Sumo sorts out his tussle with Varun. Sumo had Shravan to confide in when she visited her old home. And now Sumo is there to be the balance Shravan desperately needs.
10. It was more than just heart warming to see how a family just comes around no matter what the differences they have amongst themselves. Let me just say Vandy was so adorable yesterday- even when she was crying. And I saw a mother in Kamini chachi for the first time yesterday. She was not bothered about Shravan staying. She was more worried that he gets back home. So essentially human. So palpable. This show simply doesn't show the conventional vamps or the conventional leads. They just don't forget to keep the human aspect within every character. No matter how grey the character is.
11. I won't talk much about Shravan today. I want to stay sane. I'll just say this: Namik made me feel Shravan's sense of loss yesterday. He made me feel his pain. I literally went and hugged my mum after the episode. It was that impactful. I don't think there could be a bigger compliment/ accolade for an actor.
I ranted more than I usually do. That was some long post. Signing off.
In awe,
Arya.
