Fire Roasted & Fox
She came in to work everyday until the 10th day of ceremonies
She sent him multiple meeting invites to address the VIN # issue
He rejected them all
Ranjan was apologetic and spent an hour on Monday evening with her on the DII terrace promising to "uski to main khabar loonga gudiya"
The ripples of the VIN number were felt all the way upto Mr Bansal's level
What was done was done, her job search hadnt yielded fantastic results or anything
She needed to keep her "chin up" as Amma ordered and plugged away
Amma told her on the 9th day after she returned home from work that R&B was there, went to the "event place" and and returned to D II hung with Nivi and "ate lunch"
"Did he really eat the bland rite food?" II asked
Amma was furious
"He is not used to it, the fact he came was good" Amma snubbed her
They didnt talk to each other or text he got his daily "Nivi fix" from Amma or Akka or Shravu.
Akka found her moody and groping on the on the evening of the 9th day ceremony
on the terrace when they went up to get the family's clothes from the line
"Dont force him to be Athim. Thats only going to make him more angry" she said
"I am not forcing him to mimic Athim I am only saying how good it will be Appa can show off both his son in laws side by side"
"U think chithappas care or give a f--- about that?" Akka asked baffled
"I know umm... I will... they will" II argued
"They are here for the money Thatha left to Periappa" Akka said
Bala's Dad had asked Appa about it a couple days ago, much to Appa's shock
There wasnt much
But money made a great topic of conversation
But Bala's Dad was a good man, he reiterated that Appa should KEEP IT ALL and pay down on an apartment, as Periappa's blessing
Appa had been uncontrollable at that point
The evenings were pleasant and breezy, the air smelled like moist earth
The roasted corn hawker ambled along, the smell of charcoal smoke wafted up to the terrace
"Shud we eat?" Akka giggled
The fave Aug activity for the sisters.
Beureaucrat wives and kids lined up to order, II leaned clutching Nivi and inhaled
"We shud ask him to add a ton of kala namak" II chuckled
"U cant have, Shravu me, and Lakshmi and her kids" Akka teased
"WHYYY?" Ii screamed
"U are feeding her taaye(meri ma)" Akka went down
II followed to make a case
Amma was really afraid to give permission thinking "what would the chithis think"
Akka glared at Amma, squeezed Shubhang and went down with II
They had him make 8 at Rs.20 a piece the juiciest ones, he punctured a few seeds , milky cream like juice flowed
II's taste buds danced
Nivi watched the corn on the cob sputter on the wire mesh sheet...
Akka unrolled the Rs.100 bill she held, it was only a 100...
She was shocked
"Bala must have taken the change" she muttered embarrassed
"Ruk bhaiiya main laati hoon"
"Hey Vandita I can take care of this" R&B muttered from behind II
"MERA KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR" Akka gushed giggling, "MORE LIKE CARGOS Lacoste" she squealed again
She turned red when she heard his voice
Nivi bobbed like a siren went off in her head
He handed his wallet to his wife and grabbed his daughter
II held it and tried to return... he glared at her
She opened it to find his French driver license and Euros in the money fold, she looked for a Rs.100
And handed it to the bhutta waala
And held an open palm
"Change rehne do aap" R&B said
ADA PAAVI" Akka chuckled
"Innikki nari moonjila muzhichirpan" (he must have woken today and seen a fox, a Tamil saying that equates to good fortune)
Akka proceeded to eplain the saying to R&B
He didnt attempt to take his wallet back II held it with the 8 or so corn
Akka held the other 8
They all went up,
"Funny" he said as usual... man of few words to Akka's description of the proverb
No clue Appa was having a show down with his brother's about Periappa's inheritance
