Hindu College students pick Urvashi Rautela as Damdami Mai

Even though there were reports that the Hindu college students won't be observing this ritual this time since the Virgin Tree was pruned, we had reported that the puja will be happening as usual. Kriti Sanon was in contention for being Damdami Mai this year, but it seems Urvashi's DU connect helped her clinch the spot. Krishan Singh Phogat, president, Hindu College Hostel Union, told us, "Urvashi Rautela is confirmed as Damdami Mai. She has studied in Gargi College and is a DU passout. Also, her film Sanam Re has recently released, which makes her the ideal choice as Damdami Mai."When we told Urvashi about this, her first reaction was, "OMG! Really! You must be joking!" She added, "That's a very sweet gesture from the students and from my very own DU. It's an amazing feeling. Delhi is where my heart lies and I have a lot of respect for Delhi because it has given me wings to fly. It has made me a very responsible girl because I started my career there. I am thankful to DU students. I feel it's the best university in our country."

Urvashi also shared her memories of Valentine's Day when she was studying in DU and rued the fact that she never celebrated the day of love with someone special. "I never thought that it will happen. I have heard stories about this tree while I was studying in DU. I used to see what used to happen during Valentine's Day. There's always a lot of curiosity among the students of DU. It's a completely romantic scene in Delhi around this time. I didn't have a Valentine, but I would see my friends go out. I had many guys wooing me but I would just go to college and come back home. I regret it now, because I feel I should have enjoyed my college life more. I should have bunked some classes and been naughtier. I missed out on the fun part of college life and I regret that. Apart from focusing on studies and co-curricular activities, one should also do a lot of fun stuff. This period comes just once in life," she added.

Not many people know that Urvashi also studied in Hindu College for a short duration."Hindu and Gargi are my colleges. I went to Hindu for a short time. It was very far from South Delhi where I used to stay. I was also pursuing modelling and it was difficult to travel to North Campus. Gargi College was quite near, which is why I shifted to that college."
