10 years ago, in the Summer of 2006, I watched United 93 - a brilliant movie by Paul Greengrass that accounted the events that occured in the ill-fated flight on 9/11 which missed its target yet crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. 😭 Over a decade, I have watched the film a dozen times. Each time it effects me so deeply. So well made the film is, that it never overplays or underplays the emotions of passengers & terrorists caught in the plane. It was a sensitive and remarkable tribute to human spirit - a plane full of passengers who took matters in their own hands to abort the terrorist's mission. They all died heroes - a plane full of Neerjas. 😭 ❤️

Ironically a decade later, I watched Neerja today. When the trailer first came out, it instantly reminded me of my all time favorite. I seriously wasn't expecting much given a new director and Sonam at the helm of affairs. In fact, I was prepared to be underwhelmed.

How wrong was I. As a passionate film buff, I love being pleasantly shocked especially by the work of people I don't expect much from. This movie is a remarkable effort. 👏 It is taut, well directed, shot and acted. The initial scenes remind you of United 93... but once the flight takes off, it gains momentum and doesn't let up until the climax. Some scenes are gut wrenching, you literally want to tear the screen and shoot those terrorists.

Great acting by the ensemble. Passengers, Crew etc. The terrorists were amazing - esp Khali. Their accent and body language just spot on. Shabana is ever amazing as expected. She shines in her scenes, especially the climax. Dad, Bros & BF were good too.

Coming to madam Sonam. She did well as Neerja. 😊 Their were a few scenes where I felt she could have done better ... but easy to say that it is her career best. If she is clearly thinking of being considered a serious actress, she will have to focus on her voice and its modulation. Her expressions are fine but the voice fails her on a few occasions. However, she does make the role her own.

My favorite scene of hers is the one where she witnesses the first passenger being shot at gun point and his blood sprays on her face. That entire sequence of her having witnessed the horrific death, shocked walking towards the rest room and getting herself together.. was done brilliantly (sparks of acting talent). Their were other moments, including the climax, too where she held her own. Well done girl! 👏

Ram Madhavani will win a debut director award (with competition from Raja Menon). Sonam will win a few for sure at BSEA, Stardust (Social role etc...) and definitely a 4th Filmfare Best Actress Nomination. Shabana will get a few nominations too and so will the movie.

Go Watch the Movie in Theatre guys. It's a tear jerker and fitting tribute to Neerja Bhanot (who you get to see towards the end). ⭐️ I just wished that they would have played the recorded voice of hers prior to the credit rolling...

In the loving memory of the braveheart Neerja Bhanot ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

PS: Watch United 93 if you haven't. ❤️

The sole way this movie work is on the fact that it is based on real life , you take that away and film falls way down below
They should have cut 10 minutes to make the film looks well paced
Some lazy writing in intial 20 min of the movie ,they keep telegraphing her death through dialogues like zindagi badi honi chahie and her forgetting whole safety ring given by her mom
As per acting , This is sonam best work yet it is nothing exceptional any good actress could have replaced her.
She is not bad but she is not great too , she just performs her part decently.
Other veteran actors shine like shabana azmi
There are couple of good scenes, ending is well done.
Overall an average movie
2.3 out of 5

Watched it, and what to say, everyone here has already said everything.I cried my eyes out😭 salute to Neerja, what a couragous brave humane girl she was, very very few can do what she did at that situation.Everyone was really good in the movie, from PAN AM passengers to the terrorists, everyone had each expression on point.Sonam was really good,I did'nt expect her to be this good at all.👍🏼Shabana Azmi and the actor playing Neerja's father were mindblowing, so well they showed what parents go through when they lose their child😭nothing more heavier than the coffin of your child.😭Screenplay was really good, the feeling of tension suspense fear terror all very well captured.Cudos to th whole team for giving us such a great movie.First airlift and now neerja, 2016 seems to be a good year for patriotic and inspirational movies.Neerja Bhanot really got the shradhanjali she deserves, may her soul always rest in peace, and we all can be atleast 1 percent of what she was👏

Watched the movie and I'm just speechless. Words wouldn't be enough for me to pour out all my feelings. I don't remember the last time, I have cried this much while watching any movie. So many brilliant scenes, so wonderfully portrayed. The best part about this movie is it delivers everything in such a realistic manner. Every death shakes you, every mother's helplessness in that chaotic situation tears you up.

I never thought I'd ever say this, but I want to hug Sonam for portraying Neerja so beautifully. The vulnerability, the strength, the calm and courage, everything was so wonderfully enacted. There are no heavy dialogues, what she feels, what she goes through, is what we feel and she has done a terrific job in portraying the young and strong woman that Neerja was.

The director has done a great job. Interweaving past and present, drawing parallels and deriving strength from those instances and experiences was amazingly shown. Shabana, well what do I say about her, she gave a heart-wrenching performance. As many people already mentioned, the last line of hers made me bawl like a child.

Neera is truly immortal. The fact that she could have been the first one to escape, yet stayed on, saved every life possible like a true soldier is so... so inspiring . If everybody was half as brave and giving as her, world would be a beautiful place to live in. A big salute to her spirit. She lives on.

Babu Moshai, Zindagi badi honi chahiye, lambi nahi... ❤️
