Film lovers, who walked out of the first show of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani could not help but rave how good Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif looked together. Few months later, we found out that the lovey-dovey onscreen chemistry could have been for real. From co-stars to good friends to celebrities whose privacy was invaded' (remember Ibiza), the RanKat relationship was characterised by its denials. With news of their official break-up coming in, here is a look at their hush-hush love story.

2008: Jab They Met
Yes, as per reports, it was Deepika Padukone who took Ranbir Kapoor to Katrina Kaif's birthday party in 2008. That was where he met her for the first time ever. The Bang Bang actress was in a relationship with Salman Khan then.

2009: The First Sparks
Remember the love anthem, Tera Hone Laga Hoon. The two came together when they were paired opposite each in Rajkumar Santoshi's Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Though Ranbir was still with Dippy and Salman was dating Kat, fans did not miss the unmistakable chemistry between the two. Looking back, it seemed like a signal of sorts.

2010: Break ups and bonding
After the films, stories of the growing friendship between Ranbir and Katrina started doing the rounds. They did not hide their fondness for each other. Everyone knew that Ranbir and Deepika had separated while Katrina moved away from Salman in a hush-hush manner.

2011: Confession time
In an interview, Kapoor Junior confessed that he had cheated in a relationship and that he fell prey to temptation. The actor said that he regretted breaking someone's heart and had a better perspective on love now.

2013: The bikini broke the buff
The couple, especially Katrina always maintained the stand that the two were just good friends'. However, in July, pictures of the two holidaying in Ibiza, Spain went viral. It showed the two soaking up the sun - Ranbir in surfer shorts and Katrina in a bikini. The swimsuit might have been mismatched but they were indeed a match.

On her return, Katrina created quite a hullabaloo about how the media invaded her privacy, which went on for a while. Later, Kareena Kapoor Khan said that she would want to groove on Chikni Chameli at RanKat's wedding hinting that the couple were planning to make things formal.

2014: Entry into a love nest
By end of 2014, the couple became quite open about their relationship. They started making public appearances and seemed confident about them. In 2014, they admitted that they had special feelings for each other. Katrina was quoted as saying, "He is an extremely important person in my life. I have a lot of regard for him. The year began on a bad note for Ranbir with Bombay Velvet tanking at the box-office. However, there was buzz of good news on the personal front with stories of the two getting engaged in end of May or early June.
