A SURVIVORS CROSS
We pretend to be asleep at times
We pretend to not hear unpleasant unwelcome tidings
We turn a blind eye away from what irks us
We skip over pages with gruesome details
We fast forward scenes that annoy us or swap channels for better tales
We choose winding routes to avoid encounters
We sugar coat bitter pills to make the cure palatable
We camouflage we conceal we don a mask, draw a curtain
We roll up the windows tint the glass wear a veil
We do a lot to suppress facts to skip confrontations
When gruesome death surrounds us
To lie feigning death...to hold ones breath...hoping not to startle mourning hearts
To conclude that you have lost all you love to believe your world has come to an end
To be soaked in the blood of another to wish you were dead too
A living hell ...a moment of numbness leaves you devastated
It dawns on you, you still live. An emptiness and stillness over powers you
When realization dawns you sense you no longer fear death
Moments your heart to the scene of pain returns
To remind you one day you will leave too with a prayer on your lips
Let it be peaceful
