Hello guys 😛
I'm back again after being AWOL for a while and here is something I came up with just now.
It's not just Swasan and for the majority of first part, the main focus is Ragini.
It is the first time I'm trying my hand at something like this and I must confess that I am really scared of the reaction.😆
I initially planned it to be a one shot, but it got too long to be included in a single post, so I decided to split it into a two shot.
I must warn you that this is immensely long, in fact the longest i have ever written.
I still don't know about the ending too, I had written too much and had a bit of trouble ending it.
The final warning is that it has not been proofread, so expect a lot of errors and typos.
I am still not sure of it, but here it goes anyway.🤔

REDEMPTION

Swara sat beside Ragini, gently clasping one of her hands, a worried look on her face. She didn't know what they were doing there and was a little fearful of the consequences. Ragini in turn was smiling, her beautiful eyes were no longer deluded, and these days they looked really calm. The madness that resided in them was long gone, now replaced by a deep regret and acceptance. It was so easy now, she thought, if only I knew how easy it was before. She loved her life these days. The days she had spent at the mental institution had taught her. She had struggled, she had given up, and she had even tried to end everything once. But she was saved in nick of time by her mother, both her mothers actually. Sharmishta had come for her weekly visit when she saw her daughter unconscious on the bathroom floor in a pool of blood flowing from her left wrist. The doctors had later revealed that had Sharmishta been five minutes late, it would have been impossible to save Ragini. Sharmishta had been beside herself that day and had made Ragini promise on her life that she would never do such things again, once she woke up. Ragini had smiled and told her Maa that she now realized how blind she had been, that she was too stupid in the love of one person that she failed to see all those around her who loved her more than she could imagine.

It was that day that she had finally allowed Swara near her again. While talking to her Ma, she had seen Swara standing behind everyone looking distraught. She had bags under her eyes which seemed permanent and was thinner than Ragini had ever seen her. She was not even crying and her expression looked dead, as if everything good had been drained out of her. Ragini knew that look very well; it had been the same look she saw gazing back at her every morning through the mirror for the past few months. Sensing Ragini's gaze Swara mentally steered herself to turn back and to withdraw from the brightly lit room. She had long since accepted the fact that Ragini hated her sight, that Swaragini was dead both together and apart. But Ragini had smiled at her, she smiled at her in the same way she did when they had first decided to unite their parents. Swara felt her eyes widen in shock and after a long time, Swara felt something that she had almost forgotten, a ray of hope. She had walked towards Ragini as in a trance, stood before her with the most vulnerable expression on her face, not knowing what to do. Ragini was not surprised, she knew Swara, and she knew that once she showed her the tiniest gesture that she wanted her sister back, Swara would come running to her in a flash. So many times she had taken this for granted, she thought with a pang. But not anymore she decided with finality. That life was over, she had ended it with her own hands. This was a new life that lay ahead of her and there was so much that she had to do.

She looked into Swara's hollow eyes; she knew that though they looked blank, in their depths they contained an amount of love that could not be understood, not just for her but for everyone else too. Swara was just too drained now; she was too drained of giving too much. It was more than what Ragini could take and she had thrown her hands around her sister and held her for the first time in a long time. It was too much for Swara, she had been a living corpse for the last four months and she felt something inside her break. It was a tiny whimper at first, barely audible, but it was soon followed by another and another. Soon Swara was crying her eyes out her body shivering with silent screams. She kept talking about how worried she was, how she had been struggling for the past months, how she never wanted anyone to get hurt and if there was any way for things to go back to how they were. Ragini just held her, listening to every word, offering her comfort when required. She didn't cry, she realized that she lost the right to cry. She vowed to herself that she would only cry when Swara truly smiled. Till then she would endure, she would be strong for Swara, God knows that Swara had done her share of being strong for others. Swara had fallen asleep that day being too tired from crying so much, her head resting on Ragini's lap. Ragini gently stroked her hairs her mind in turmoil. She had a lot on her mind, something that she didn't tell anyone and something which would be her secret for days to come. She had seen her mother, her birth mother.

Ragini did not know if it was a dream or not, but walking through the fine line between life and death, she had lived another life, a life of realizations and awakenings. She had laid on the bathroom floor unmoving for a very long time. She didn't feel the blinding pain from her slashed wrist, she just felt numb, and she just wanted to end it. She had felt the last threads of consciousness leave her and had welcomed it with open arms. She was going to die, she knew it, and when she finally opened her eyes she thought that she truly did because she was in front of her, the one person she had spent her whole life yearning to meet. Her mother, Janki. The smiling form of her mother stood in front of her, looking at her with nothing but love in her eyes, just the way she always imagined. Ragini looked back at her, overwhelmed. She realized that she had died. But she felt confused to see her mother in front of her; she was one of them who were doomed to the depths of hell. How can her mother, who must surely be in heaven, be in front of her? She kept looking at her mother at a loss of words.

Janki enveloped her daughter in her arms and gently stroked her hair. Ragini stood numbly, too afraid to move. Janki moved back still holding one of Ragini's hands and cupped her face with her other hand.

"Kya kar diya tune laado?'

Janki asked, but not the way papa, dadi or Sharmishta Maa asked, with disappointment and anger in their eyes, her mother asked it with love, with genuine concern in her eyes. Ragini had faltered before her question; the truth was that she no longer knew. All those strings which kept Lakshya tied to her heart had been cut off once she was woken up. That was a different life, she had given it up. Those feelings ceased to mean anything to her now. So she stared dumbly back, not sure how to answer the question in front of her.

Her mother slowly shook her head, squeezing her hand a little. Then she showed her. And by that, Ragini was stunned beyond her wits. She saw her family in front of the emergency room. She saw Sharmishta ma arguing with the doctor with fiery eyes, telling him that her daughter couldn't die, that they had to save her. She saw her Nani ma, comforting her Dadi ma, who looked absolutely distraught muttering some prayers, shaking with little sobs. She saw her Papa sitting in one of the hospital chairs, looking completely lost with a defeated expression on his face. She saw Lakshya near her father, trying to reassure him, offering him his comfort. Then she saw Swara, she was sitting in front of the little mandir in the hospital, her hands folded, her eyes red. Sanskar was standing behind her, with his concerned eyes never leaving her frail form.

She turned back to her mother, her face conveying her disbelief.

"But they hate me now. I betrayed them. Why are they? I don't understand"

Janki was still smiling. "What did you think laado? That your family can hate you? No sweetheart. They don't." She asked "Do you know how lucky you are to have a family like that? And to think you were going to throw it all away. How stupid can you be laado?"

"I didn't know maa." Ragini couldn't stop the sob that escaped her. "I thought they hated me." And then a terrible thought struck her. She let out a desperate sigh, "What did I do maa?" she stated hysterically "I didn't know. I never realized and now when I did, it's too late."

Her mother shushed her."It's not laado. If it was, I wouldn't be here." She said in her gentle voice. "You can go back, you get all of them back but only if you chose to go back. It's all up to you laado. You mother didn't have this choice, but you do. Please choose wisely. And always know this in your heart sweetheart, that your mother loves you with all her heart."

Ragini felt her eyes water, she was waiting her whole life to hear those words. She smiled through her tears. "I love you too maa, more than everything else.", she said in a chocked whisper.

Her mother kissed her forehead, Ragini closed her eyes in contentment. She opened them to find her mother gone. There was only darkness around her now. She heard the beeping of some machine and for the first time felt the blazing pain in her wrist. She heard someone gasp loudly and call out for the doctor. And Ragini knew, that she had come back, she knew that she had lots to do, lots of things to mend.

And as she gently stroked Swara's silky strands, she felt her resolve harden. She owed them all a lot. She would make everything right. She had to.

That was the reason they were now sitting on the royal couch at Maheswari mansion. Annapurna and Sujata sat in front of them, conversing with the sisters about how life has been. They had long since forgiven Ragini, after they came to know about her disease and was really glad to have her home. It had been two months since Ragini had woken up, two months since Swara never left her side. For the first two weeks, Swara didn't let her get off the bed. She took care of her in the way only Swara could; she spent all her time taking care of Ragini. But Ragini knew now, because in this life she was a lot more perceptive. She knew that Swara was trying to hide from her demons. As much as Swara tried to hide the lingering sadness in her eyes, how much she put on a happy facade in front of their family, Ragini noticed it. She knew Swara was hurt, and she knew the exact reason why Swara was hurt. That was why she was here, to seek Swara's happiness, to reunite her with the one her heart desired. And she knew very well that it wasn't Lakshya.

PART-2

After Ragini's truth was exposed, Swara and Sanskar had mutually agreed to part ways. Sanskar, who believed that Swara didn't share his feelings, had done what he thought was right and had let her go. Swara, who at the time was emotionally spent, had taken the easy way out. Instead of trying to comprehend her growing feelings towards Sanskar, she chose to ignore them trying to protect her already frail heart from further heartache. Later when she realized how much she had came to love him, she feared it was too late. She felt that he must have already moved on with his life and was afraid of rejection if she approached him. They both regretted their decisions very deeply, but it was already taken. One thing common about Swara and Sanskar was that once they decided something, it was decided. They both would stick hard to the decision not matter how much they had to give up for it. It was something that Ragini thought was crazy, but she understood now. They were both trying to make everyone else happy and now it was up to her to make them see sense.

Ragini felt Swara's grip on her hand tighten a bit and she turned from her conversation with Sujata towards Swara who was gazing forlornly towards the stairs. She followed Swara's gaze and saw Sanskar descending down the stairs. Ragini smiled thinking how immature the two of them were being with this. It was obvious to everyone with two pairs of eyes that Swara and Sanskar loved each other. Don't worry, she thought. I'll have the two of you smiling in no time. It was then when she saw Lakshya descending down the steps behind Sanskar. Her smile faded a bit. It had been awhile since she saw him. They had last spoken on the day of their divorce and she had been keeping her distance since then. Though she no longer felt the intimidating, intense feeling she once felt for him, she would be lying if she said she felt nothing. But what she felt was only a faint stir, something she could quell down very easily. She slightly shook her head; Lakshya was not her mission, not anymore. She instead locked her gaze on Sanskar who had now seen Swara and had an expression on his face as if he was burning inside.

"Sanskar Bhaiyya" she called out and he turned her gaze hesitantly towards her, tearing his eyes away from Swara.

"Yes Ragini?" He asked with a look of concern. "Did you need something?"

"Actually, yes." She said getting up. "We came here to discuss something very important with you. I think it's about time it needed to be brought up."

"What is it?" He asked moving towards her.

Ragini grasped Swara's hand and lead her towards Sanskar.

"It's enough now guys." She started with a slight smile. "Just stop all this pretending. We all know how the both of you are coping without each other. Why do you keep doing this to yourselves? And don't you dare say that you don't know what I am talking about because I know very well that you do."

Swara opened her mouth to say something but Ragini motioned with her hand to stop.

"Let me finish Swara." She said in with determination. "I know you Swara. I've seen you trying so hard for the past few months. Why do you struggle so hard Swara? Why do you keep doing this to yourself? Are you afraid of your own happiness? Swara I've seen the other side of life and trust me it's not pretty. It literally kills you, when you see all the wrong choices you made? I had to go through that once. Please don't do it yourself Swara. You are much too good for that. Please let me rectify at least one of my mistakes. Please speak up Swara!" Ragini finished with tears in her eyes, clasping both of Swara's hands, desperately willing her to understand. Swara in turn was looking back at Ragini with teary eyes, her face a pure reflection of pain.

Ragini turned towards Sanskar. "Sanskar, at least you know right? Swara would always be her sacrificing self, but you are sensible right? Why are the two of you wasting your life for the other when you know very well that you could be perfectly happy with each other? I keep waiting for the day when the both of you would finally accept the truth and I am just fed up of the both of you bottling everything up. We all know how you both feel. Just say it already."

Both Sanskar and Swara were looking at each other with identical expressions of longing but neither of them moved, neither said a word.

Finally Swara broke her gaze and looked at Ragini who was looking pleadingly at her.

"Let's go home Ragini." She said in a chocked voice. "Sanskar doesn't want to talk anymore about this. He has moved on. Let him be happy with his life."

Swara turned around to leave. Ragini felt her insides break, she couldn't let this happen. She reached out to grab Swara's hand to stop her. But someone had already beaten her to it.

Swara froze in mid step sensing the familiar touch. She knew that grip; she had grown to love it a lot more than she showed. She turned back to see Sanskar holding her wrist gently but firmly, his eyes resembled steel.

"Who gave you the right to decide that?" He said his voice barely a whisper. "Of course! You are Swara right? Saint Swara, who lives her life for others, never caring about her own happiness. Fine, I get it. I had long since let you go. But don't you dare. Don't you dare say that I've moved on. I will never move on. I will always keep loving you." He said with blazing eyes. Seeing the pain in Swara's eyes, he softened a bit. "I will always keep on loving you Swara. It's the only thing that is holding me towards life." He added in a whisper.

Swara stared at him transfixed, she felt herself unable to move. Sanskar still loved her. Even after all this, he loved her. It took a moment for it to sink in. Suddenly she felt lightheaded. She felt everything catch up to her and she lost herself in the whirl wind of emotions she suddenly found inside herself. Her legs felt like jelly under her, and she gripped the armrest next to her to support herself.

Sanskar, who was unaware of her inner turmoil, misunderstood her silence and shock for rejection yet again. He slowly pulled his hand back and felt the small ray of hope which had lifted his spirits up recede back again. He had held on to that little thread and had made a fool of himself in front of his family yet once again. He felt his eyes burn with unshed tears and decided that it was enough drama for the day. He turned around to see and started to walk away.

Swara who had gone away to another world was finally starting to grasp reality. A small smile formed on her lips which soon turned out to a wide mouth stretching one. Sanskar loved her. She felt giddy; despite everything he still loved her. She wanted to shout it from rooftops, that the smart, calculated, logical Sanskar Maheswari loved her. It was then she realized that he was retreating again. Irrational panic gripped her. She had already made the mistake of letting him walk away once. Life had proved to be kinder to her than she thought and she was now given another chance at her happiness again and she would be the biggest fool on earth if she let this slip away. She ran towards him, only to crash on to him and to send the both of them sprawling on to the floor.

Ragini had seen her sister's face and had read her decision very easily. She smiled to herself. At last she had done one thing right. For the first time in a long time, Ragini felt peace. She made no effort to help Swara when she tackled Sanskar and herself to the floor. She even stopped Sujata who was about to help them. She smiled at her and shook her head, silently conveying to Sujata that they both would be fine and who in turn smiled back.

Sanskar neither had any idea as to why or how he had fallen down on his back nor why Swara had that goofy smile on her face. He felt an odd feeling of deja vu in his mind, remembering the time when he had been awoken from his sleep in the same way. He searched her face and was taken aback. He refused to believe what he saw there and held his hopes from getting high.

"What are you doing Swara?" he asked warily, his eyes guarded.

Swara threw her arms around him and rested her head against his chest. She heard the vigorous thumping of his heart in perfect sync to hers. She closed her eyes and inhaled a deep breath.

"I love you Sanskar." She said her eyes closed."I had been foolish, ever doubting your love for you. But not anymore. I am tired Sanskar, tired of trying so hard pretend you don't matter. I give up now. I love you Sanskar, I have loved you for a long time and I love you a lot more than you think."

That was all what Sanskar needed to hear. He hugged her back crushing her onto him. He looked towards the sky silently thanking whoever it was watching over, smiling through his tears. Swara hugged him back just as desperately, not caring they were in front of his whole family putting on a very public display of affection. None of these mattered then, because two soul mates that were torn apart by fate had finally come together again. For them, nothing mattered at the moment more than each other.

The whole Maheswari parivar and Ragini looked at the two people sprawled on the floor, holding onto the other as if their existence depended on them. They smiled at each other, Sujata discreetly wiping her eyes. Annapurna came beside Ragini who was had a smile of pure joy on her face. She took one of her hands in hers, and cupped her face with the other. She didn't say anything but Ragini understood. She nodded back through her tears silently conveying that it was her responsibility and she had done it with her heart this time. The woman whom she once called ma looked at her proudly and then turned her gaze back to Swara and Sanskar who were still on the floor oblivious to everything else around them.

Swara slowly opened her eyes, lifted her head and looked at Sanskar. The absolute adoration etched on his face took her breath away. She made a sound which was a cross between a sob and laughter. She laughed at themselves, for all those months they wasted. How stupid had the both of them been? How could they ever doubt their love for each other? They both smiled brightly through their tears. Swara rested her forehead against Sanskar's gracing him with a thousand promises and he smiled back and for the first time in three years, he felt absolute, pure and undiluted joy. They still made no attempts to get up, and lay on the floor contently holding their whole world in their arms.

"They look perfect together." A voice said near Ragini who was still standing on the same spot.

She smiled but did not look back. "They do Lakshya." She sighed. "They deserve each other." She turned around slightly to look at his composed face. "I'm glad that I finally did something right." She added more to herself than to Lakshya.

"You are not a bad person Ragini. You just didn't know what you were doing was wrong. I had long since accepted all that had happened. I had forgiven you. Now I need you to forgive me for all those mixed signals I gave you and all the mess I made." Lakshya said in a calm voice.

Ragini now turned fully towards Lakshya her eyes wide in surprise. She had definitely not expected this, this mature side of Lakshya. She smiled at him, her heart beating a little faster than normal.

"Don't embarrass me Lakshya. You know very well that while you made some mistakes, what I did were crimes. Please don't make me feel worse about it than I already do." She said in a low voice, remembering her heinous acts.

Lakshya simply gazed back. "Okay, I agree what you did were not right." She raised her eyebrows at that, but Lakshya ignored it and continued. "But now are you willing to right them? How far are you willing to go for redeeming yourself?"

"Anything." She replied without a blink.

Lakshya then smiled his boyish smile. The smile which had once made her crazy. "Be my friend." He said extending his hand. " I seriously need a friend who I can depend on right now and I know that I could trust our old Ragini with my eyes closed. Be my friend, be that girl for me. We could start over again, as friends." He had a hopeful expression on his face.

Ragini felt a different smile form on her face, one that was different from the smile of contentment of seeing Swara and Sanskar. She felt some odd stirrings in her heart, some things she had long forgotten.

She firmly grasped Lakshya's hand in hers.

"I would like that very much Lakshya"

When Swara and Sanskar finally found the will to detach from each other, they were greeted by the wonderful sight of their siblings shaking hands. Swara smiled to herself, Sanskar's hand still held firmly in hers. She looked up and saw his beaming face, and she could only beam back.
